“Canada is a leading and responsible supplier of green building material to China. In 2013, Canada’s trade relationship with China was worth more than $72 billion CAD (￥407billionYuan) —and wood products from Canada are an increasingly important part of that relationship. China’s import of Canadian wood products accounted for close to $1.9 billion CAD (￥10.7billion Yuan) —an increase of more than 1700 percent in just the past 10 years.

Last year, Canada was the world’s largest supplier of softwood lumber and newsprint and the second largest supplier of pulp. Wood is the pride of many Canadians, not only in the form of standing timber but also in the structure of buildings and as finishing and decorative material, furniture and as a material of everyday objects. Canada is a resource-rich country and responsibly manages these resources: less than 0.2 % of Canada’s forests are harvested annually to meet the demand of the domestic and the international markets.

In addition to being green, safe, affordable and flexible, wood is a multi-purpose building material and a completely renewable resource. More importantly, wood-frame buildings make a significant contribution to reducing the carbon footprint of urban development and play an important part in our collective efforts to reduce harmful emissions.
