Listen to the tape then answer this question. What kind of dress does the lady want?

ASSISTANT: Do you like this dress, madam?

LADY: I like the colour very much. It's lovely dress, but it's too small for me.

ASSISTANT: What about this one? It's lovely dress. It's very smart. Short skirts are in fashion now. Would you like to try it?

LADY: All right.

LADY: I'm afraid this green dress it too small for me as well. It's smaller than the blue one.

LADY: I don't like the colour either. It doesn't suit me at all. I think the blue dress is prettier.

LADY: Could you show me another blue dress? I want a dress like that one, but it must be my size.

ASSISTANT: I'm afraid I haven't got a larger dress. This is the largest dress in the shop.

1. Short skirts are in fashion now. 短裙现在正流行。

in fashion=popular. 都表示流行的，时髦的。如：

Miniskirts are in fashion in Shenzhen this summer.

The song, 《that girl》 is becoming widely popular.

这首歌《that girl》正在广泛流行开来。

2. Would you like to try it. 你要试一试吗？

本句中的Would you like…？和下文Could you show me another blue dress? 这句话中的Could you…？这两个句型都是询问对方意见的一种委婉语气。如：

Would you like to tell me what happened?

能告诉我发生了什么事吗？

Could you lend me some money?

你能借我点钱吗？

3. It's smaller than the blue one. 它比那套蓝色的小一些。

than表示比，smaller是在形容词small的后面+er变成了它的比较级，表示更小；最高级是the smallest，在词尾+est而变成了它的最高级，表示最小，最高级前要加定冠词the。如下文中的句子：

I think the blue dress is prettier.

我认为那件蓝色的更漂亮些。

I'm afraid I haven't got a larger dress.

恐怕没有更大的了。

This is the largest dress in the shop.

这是店里最大的一件了。

形容词的比较级和最高级的变化规则：

a. 一般直接在词尾+er、est，如：

tall-taller-tallest

young-younger-youngest

cheap-cheaper-cheapest

b. 以e结尾+r、st。如：

wide-wider-widest

large-larger-largest

nice-nicer-nicest

c. 以辅元辅结尾的，且元音字母读短音时，双写尾字母，再+er、est。如：

fat-fatter-fattest

thin-thinner-thinnest

big-bigger-biggest

d. 以辅音字母+y结尾，变y为i，再+er、est。如：

happy-happier-happiest

easy-easier-easiest

heavy-heavier-heaviest

e. 不规则变化，如：

good-better-best

bad-worse-worst

little-less-least

f. 多音节的形容词，通常在原级之前+more、the most。如：

beautiful-more beautiful-the most beautiful

difficult-more difficult-the most difficult

interesting-more interesting-the most interesting

4. It doesn't suit me at all. 这颜色我穿根本不合适。

suit作动词表示适合（指颜色、款式的适合），而动词fit也表示适合（指尺寸、大小的适合）。如：

Does this color of lipstick suit me?

这口红的颜色适合我吗？

Does this shirt fit you?

这件衬衣合身吗？

suit作名词表示套装或者一套西装。如：

This suit is made of very good material.

这套衣服的质料很好。
