flavor

    

这两个词都可表示“味道”的意思。

 

taste     普通用词，可用作动词或名词，指食品、菜肴、药品等的味道，也可引申出

              表示其他方面的“味道”、“滋味”。

          

1) The taste of dishes you cooked is very delicious.

     (你烧的菜味道非常好吃。)

2) It is the new fancy rather than taste that produces so many new fashions.

   （是其新奇而不是味道产生了很多新的款式。）

 

3) The gourmet stated that this was the best onion soup she had ever tasted.

   （这位美食家说,这是她品尝过的最好的洋葱汤。）

4）We have tasted the sweets and bitters of life.

    （我们已尝够了人生的甜酸苦辣。）

 

 

flavor    用作名词，指特殊的口味、风味。

 

1) What flavor of ice-cream do you like?

   （你喜欢什么口味的冰激凌？）

2) Scientists in the food industry try to find single chemical combinations that mimic

      meat’s flavor and made inexpensive meat substitute more delicious.

   （食品工业的科学家想找到简单一化学配方,模拟了肉的味道，制作出价廉味美的肉

        的替代品。）

这三个词都可表示“气味”的意思。

 

smell    普通用词，可用作名词或动词，指好闻或不好闻的气味。

       

1）All over the house there was a smell of fresh paint.

      (整个屋子里到处都闻到一股新漆的油漆味。)

2）Who can resist the wonderful smell of bread baking?

     (谁能抵挡住那烤面包的诱人香味？)

 

3) What are the made of? They smell fragrant.

     (它们是用什么做的？闻起来香香的。)

4）When we entered the room, we smelt something burning.

    （我们进入屋子时闻到有东西烧焦的气味。）

 

odor    书面用语，多用于专业科技文章，也可以表示一般的气味。

 

1）Chloral is a colorless, volatile liquid with a very penetrating odor.

     （三氯乙醛是无色挥发性液体，有一种刺激性的气味。）

2) The flowers in the garden give off a pleasant strong odor.

     （花园里的花散发出一种浓郁的馥香。）

 

scent   指特殊的气味。

 

1) The dogs followed up the scent of a fox.

   （狗凭狐狸身上的气味跟踪其踪迹。）

2) The scent of cooking in the kitchen makes me feel hungry.

  （厨房烹饪的气味让我觉得肚子饿了。）

这三个词都可表示“香味”的意思。

 

scent   普通用词，可指任何自然或人工的香味。

            

1) From outside windows, there came was the sweet scent of flowers.

   （从窗外传来淡淡花的清香。）

2) I smell the scent of fresh strawberries.

   （我闻到了新鲜草莓的清香味。）

 

fragrance   指清香、新鲜好闻的气味，常指花卉散发的香味。

 

1）A sweet fragrance rose from the wild grasses.

      (野草泛起一股怡人的香味。)

2）Super whisky gives off a rare grangrance and stirs up your fervor.

      （超级威士忌散发出一种芬馥的香气，让您激情无限。）

 

perfume    作名词可表示“香水”；也可表示香水、香料的散发香味或从花中提取的

                    挥发性油类物质的香味。  作动词表示“散发香味”。

      

1) The smell of her fperfume permeated the room.

     (房间里弥漫着她的香水味。)

2) She put some perfume on her handkerchief to make it smell peasant.

    (她把一些香水洒在手帕上使它闻起来很令人愉悦的香味。)

 

3) The toothpaste imports a most pleasant perfume to the breath.

     (这种牙膏吸气闻上起有一股令人愉快的香味。

4）Beauty, unaccpmpanied by virture, is like a flower without perfume.

    （美丽任没有美德相伴，犹如一朵无味之花。）

 

5）The air is perfumed with rose flowers.

     （空气中充满玫瑰香味。）

6）Those lotuses perfume the whole park.

       (荷花使整个公园变得很香。)
