Why Foods Can Heal You Far

In a study reported in Cancer Research, researchers gave lab rats several types of food that contained lycopene. Other rats received the substance via supplements. Those taking the supplements had no major reduction in tumor growth, but those eating the foods did.

THE FOOD DOCTOR’S
SPECIALTY SOUP

This delicious soup is packed with ingredients shown in clinical studies to relieve joint pain, prevent cancer and heart disease, reduce blood sugar and prevent memory loss.

Ingredients:

1 onion
2 carrots
2 celery sticks
3 medium-sized potatoes
4 medium-sized tomatoes
14-oz. can of chickpeas
5 cups vegetable stock
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 ½ tsp. ground turmeric
1 Tbsp. grated gingerroot
1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
½ tsp. curry powder
4 strands of saffron
1 bay leaf
1 Tbsp. fresh-squeezed lemon juice.

Preparation:

1. Dice celery, onion and potatoes. Peel and dice carrots. Dice tomatoes, remove seeds.
2. Pour 1½ cups of the veggie stock into large saucepan. Add onions and simmer for a few minutes.
3. While onions are simmering, deal with the spices. Mix in the cinnamon, curry, turmeric, cayenne, and ginger and add 2 Tbsp. of the vegetable stock. Mix well.
4. Add this mix to the onions and stock already being heated.
5. Add the rest of your veggie stock to the onion and stock mix and let soup return to boil. Stir, then cover and heat.
6. After 5 minutes, add the potatoes, tomatoes, celery, and carrots and allow it to simmer in the covered saucepan for 20 – 30 minutes or until carrots and celery are tender.
7. Pour in the chickpeas, black pepper, saffron,and fresh-squeezed lemon juice and heat thoroughly before serving.
8. Enjoy!

New research shows that tomatoes are rich in a nutrient that can help prevent vascular diseases. It does so by lowering cholesterol and fat in the blood.

Vascular diseases are those that affect the body’s blood vessels. They are often serious and include “arteriosclerosis,” which involves thickened and stiffened arteries that block blood flow to the heart and brain, as in a heart attack or a stroke.

Scientists have found a particular nutrient within tomatoes that could help stop vascular disease from developing in the first place.  It’s called 9-oxo-octadecadienoic.

New research shows that 9-oxo-octadecadienoic has remarkable ability to help the body normalize fats in the blood, such as cholesterol or triglycerides.  These blood fats pave the way for vascular diseases such as arteriosclerosis. Miracle Phytonutrients #16: Protecting Your Memory

Luteolin is a powerful phytonutrient shown to stop age-related inflammation in the brain.  It is shown to prevent memory loss by stopping the release of inflammatory molecules in the brain, according to a new study at the University of Illinois.

Normally, older mice show higher levels of inflammation. However, older mice that were on the luteolin-supplemented diet fared better on the learning and memory task than the others did. Also, levels of inflammation in their brains were comparable to the younger mice.

Research shows that pomegranate juice may be an effective tool in battling prostate cancer.

A clinical study at UCLA looked at 50 men who had aggressive forms prostate cancer. All had gone through surgery or radiation but their levels of “prostate-specific antigens” (PSAs) continued to increase after surgery, which is an indication that the disease remains.

The men’s PSA levels were quickly doubling, which translates into a fast-growing cancer. The faster PSA levels double, the less likely the patient will survive the cancer.

So, in this rather dire situation, the men drank one 8-ounce glass of pomegranate juice a day. Almost right away, their conditions started improving. They went from PSA levels doubling in 15 months to doubling in 54 months. This means that the juice dramatically slowed down the rate at which PSA levels were rising, thus creating a much better possibility that each man would survive the cancer.

Though preliminary, the study raises hope that prostate cancer may be treated naturally by the pomegranate. More research is underway, but you don’t need to wait to enjoy pomegranates.
