The architecture of No. 8 HengShan Road is always a topic of conversation. It consists of the excellently preserved historical structure Shanghai American School Water Tower complimented by two distinctive contemporary buildings, forming an intriguing dialogue between past and present architecture, and a balance between culture and history.
衡山路8号项目的改造灵感可以从亨利·墨菲所代表的传统复兴风格建筑流派中寻到踪迹。以美童公学为源头，参照衡复风貌区的沿街现状建筑与街道尺度关系，延续了街区的建筑色彩——砖红、沙色和水泥质感的灰色。2栋当代建筑的改造，以石材为“实”，拼接现代感的材质元素，上部建筑外立面则选择现代、轻盈的玻璃材质作为“虚”，以此平衡建筑体量的厚重感，注入现代特征。
其美学价值显著，给游客以复古又不失现代，传统又不失新颖的独特感受，于此漫步，惬意舒适的同时，也得以在浓厚的历史文化底蕴中有所熏陶。
The inspiration for the renovation of 8 Hengshan Road can be traced from the traditional revival style architectural school represented by Henry Murphy. Using the Shanghai American School as the source, the project continues the architectural colors of the neighborhood - brick red, sand and cement gray - with reference to the relationship between the current buildings and the scale of the street in the Hengfu style district. The upper facade is made of modern, light glass as the 'virtual' material, which balances the heaviness of the building volume and injects modern features.
室内设计重新塑造了当地经典的社交与休闲场所，给人以轻松舒适又高端优雅的体验。建于1923年的美童公学水塔，整体风格为清水红砖的美式文艺复兴式建筑，顶部挑檐，墙体表面在转角处略有凹凸，墙面有花纹装饰。被列入上海市优秀历史建筑名单。毋庸置疑，美童公学水塔及广场是衡山路8号项目的标志性景观。
The interior design clearly understands and respects the project culture and goes as far as to reshape the classic design of local social and leisure locales. Built in 1923, the water tower of Shanghai American School is an American Renaissance-style building in clear water and red brick, with a raised eave at the top, slightly concave and convex wall surfaces at the corners, and floral decoration on the walls. It is included in the list of outstanding historical buildings in Shanghai. Undoubtedly, the Shanghai American School Water Tower and Plaza is the iconic landscape of the 8 Hengshan Road project.
衡山路8号于2022年获“2021年度中国城市更新和既有建筑改造优秀案例”、2021-2022“上海设计100 ”荣誉称号。
In 2022, 8 Hengshan Road was awarded the title of 'Excellent Case of Urban Renewal and Existing Building Renovation in China in 2021' and 'Shanghai Design 100 ' in 2021-2022.

In the summer of 2022, the first flagship store of DOWNLAND in China was officially opened at No.8 Hengshan Road, Shanghai. Inspired by the design of 'Dreamland', the distinctive geometric lines and trendy urban color scheme are subtly echoed, and the large area of high quality white space, together with the semi-shaded atmosphere, create a natural and elegant atmosphere and unlimited imagination about sleep.
