12月17日，格莱美奖（Grammy Award）获奖歌手及歌词作者杰森·玛耶兹（Jason Mraz）（上图左）首开先河，作为第一位在缅甸演出的世界级艺人留在人们的记忆中。

玛耶兹在一场50,000多人观看的演唱会上登台演出，希望促使人们认识人口贩运活动的罪恶。他告诉新闻记者：“我知道，世界上有很多为非作歹的事情。今天，我正是为此而来。”据联合国估计，在任何时刻都有大约240万人作为劳工或性剥削对象被贩卖。

这场演唱会在缅甸最大城市仰光（Rangoon）著名的瑞光大金塔（Shwedagon Pagoda）下举行，当地歌手也参加了演出。

这次活动由多媒体慈善基金会“终止剥削与人口贩运”运动（MTV EXIT――End Exploitation and Trafficking）与美国国际开发署（U.S. Agency for International Development）、澳大利亚国际开发署（Australian Agency for International Development）以及致力于结束现代奴役的全球运动“自由行走”（Walk Free）共同组织；并与缅甸政府、联合国机构间打击人口贩运项目（United Nations Inter-Agency Project on Human Trafficking）以及东南亚国家联盟（Association of Southeast Asian Nations）联合策划。

American Singer Jason Mraz Makes History in Burma

Grammy Award–winning singer and songwriter Jason Mraz (above, left) made history December 17 when he became the first world-class entertainer in memory to perform in Burma.

Appearing in a concert before more than 50,000 people, Mraz’s goal was to raise awareness of human trafficking. “I understand that there is a lot of wrongdoing in this world,” he told reporters. “Today, I’m here for this.” The United Nations estimates there are some 2.4 million people trafficked at any given time for labor or sexual exploitation.

The concert, which also featured local vocalists, took place at the base of the famous Shwedagon Pagoda in Rangoon, Burma’s largest city.
