英语语法：词类转换（合成词）

前几期介绍了英语语法：学习体会、词的分类、词类转换（前缀派生词）、词类转换（后缀派生词前二种）、词类转换（后缀派生词二）、关于国家名称的派生词、兼类词中记类变化而词形不变、兼类词中词形相似词类易混淆的情形。这一期学习英语语法：词类转换（合成词）。

英语中的词类可以通过一定的构词方法实现相互转换。词类之间的转换一般有派生词、兼类词和合成词三类。

3.合成词

（1）合成词一般由两个或者两个以上的词合成。

weekend周末，timetable时间表

checkout付款处，blackboard黑板

three-year-old三岁大的，well-known出名的

video game电子游戏，sportscar跑车

high jump跳高，litter bin废物箱

ice cream冰淇淋，pop song流行歌曲

commonwealth联邦,white collar worker白领工人

（2）含数词的复合形容词有两种形式

1）基数词+单数可数名词，中间用连字符号，通常用来充当定语，修饰名词，相当于“基数词+名词所有格”。

a three-day trip三天的旅游

three days’ trip三天的旅游

a two-hour walk二小时的步行

two hours’ walk二小时的步行

a five-minutes’ break五分钟的休息

five minutes’ break五分钟的休息

a five-hour ride五小时的车程

five hours’ ride五小时的车程

2）基数词+单数可数名词+形容词

an eight-year-old boy五岁的男孩

an ninety-metre-high building九十米高的大楼

这一类合成的形容词，通常用来充当定语，修饰名词，不用来充当表语，比较以下句子。

That is a 2,000-kilometer-long railway.

那是条2000千米长的铁路。

That railway is 2,000 kilometers long.

那条铁路2000千米长。

That is a three-foot-deep swimming pool.

那是一个三英尺深的游泳池。

That swimming pool is three feet deep.

那个游泳池三英尺深。
