Exams in the Chinese education system hold most substantial weight, and this pressure comes from both the home as well as the country.中国教育系统的考试负担最重，这种压力来自家庭和国内环境。The expectation for high grades has become ingrained in the Chinese culture, and all citizens take letter grades and standardized test scores seriously. 对高分的期待在中国文化中根深蒂固，所有公民都很重视优良中差和标准化考试成绩。Not only does grading strictly determine the education level of the student, but it is also used to evaluate the teacher’s performance. If students do well on their exams, teachers often get a raise. In America, there can be slight consequences for teachers when it comes to student outcomes and performance on both oral and written exams.分数不仅严格决定了学生的受教育程度，而且还用于评价教师的表现。如果学生考试成绩好，老师往往会加薪。在美国，无论是口试还是笔试，当涉及到学生成绩和表现时，教师都只会受到轻微的影响。
Deeply embedded in the Chinese culture is the examination system. Since the Song Dynasty (960 AD), the Chinese have relied on the examination process to identify their governmental leaders. Now the examination system is used to determine which university students are able to attend. These national exams were given on June 7 and 8. 考试制度深深地植根于中国文化之中。自宋朝（公元960年）以来，中国人依靠考试过程来确定他们的政府领导人。现在考试系统被用来确定哪些学生可以进入大学学习。这些全国性的考试是在6月7日和8日举行的。Local middle schools were used as test sites and those middle school students had a two day holliday. The test is of such great significance that parents rent hotel rooms nearby so their student can have a quiet lunch and take a nap. For liberal arts students, the first test, Chinese, was from 9:00-11:30.
