How to Cure Loneliness
I can't help but be reminded of...

Loneliness is always looking for a friend
It found me once and it has been around since then
Loneliness is never waiting by the door
It sweeps right through and it will never be ignored
Why, why was I chosen?
Why am I left without?


This song by Westlife, puts the thoughts of loner in the exact words, and in a perfect melody. All of us, at some point of time are struck with loneliness. However, the state of loneliness is hardly ever perfect. Loneliness, leads to bottled up feelings and a looming question of how to cure it. You may be amongst your friends, but still a lonely person. Curing loneliness is not just about hanging out with friends, but about making that connection with a person who understands you and is there for you, no matter what. If the state of loneliness, is left untreated, then it can lead to depression, anger, and frustration.

Acceptance
The first step, is to accept the fact that you are lonely. Most loners, never accept their state, which makes them delve into it deeper. Firstly, it's OK, to be lonely. All of us, have to go through this state at some point or the other. So what if you are lonely? What is the big deal about being lonely. Nothing. Don't dwell on the fact that you are lonely. Accept it, and resolve to make a change towards it.

Keep Busy
You need to get up and get out! A hectic professional life is never an excuse. Join some classes, like dance, yoga, gym, and go to places where you can meet people. Meeting people, socializing, catching up with old friends, and making new friends are the cures for loneliness. Another option for the killing the loner inside you, is join a non-profit organization in your town or city, to help the underprivileged. This way you will come across a wide diaspora of people who will help you widen your scope of thought and social network. Getting involved with people is the best way of driving away loneliness.

It's Your Choice
The life that you are leading right now, is a reflection of your thoughts and actions of the past. You need to understand that your state of loneliness is your choice and not a decided way of life for you. Try and meet as many new people as you can with an open and a receptive mind. Make an endeavor to express your feelings. Let out all your negative emotions, to make some space for positivity.

The Difference
Some of are just alone, while some of us may be lonely. Many loners, try to mask their loneliness under the pretext of being alone. When the state of being alone stretches too far, it becomes loneliness. By being alone you may try to sort out your cluttered emotions, however, having bottled emotions, won't get you anywhere. Hence, it's important to know the difference between being alone and being lonely if at all you are looking for a cure for loneliness.

Cures for loneliness will work, if you want them to work for you. A mere desire to make a change in your life, will make a difference in your state of life. Deal with loneliness by taking a conscious step towards it and not by passivity.
