What is the ultimate no-no when visiting America？

No-no: sth that is not possible or acceptable

• Using racial slurs is a big no-no in most countries.

Plumbing: a system of pipes that carries water through a building.

Upfront/up-front: honest; candid; straightforward

• If you are not upfront at the beginning of a business deal, it can lead to misunderstandings down the road.

 

Sketchy: unreliable or unsafe

• Don't buy electronics from sketchy websites.

Cause a scene/make a scene: to make a public display or disturbance

• I know you're upset, but try not to cause a scene.

Off-limits: forbidden to be patronized, frequented, used by certain persons.

• In America, bars are off-limits for people under the age of 21.

 

Dickwad: a despised person; asshole; jerk

• People who cut in line are real dickwads.

Pull over: to direct one's automobile to the curb; move out of a line of traffic

• In the United States, all drivers must pull over to the right to make way for ambulances.

 

Glove box/glove compartment: a small storage area in front of the front seat of a car

• I usually store my car insurance and registration documents in the glove box.

License: 驾驶证

Registration: 行驶证

On edge: nervous, tense, irritable

• We were all on edge as we waited for the surgeon's report.

To hail from somewhere: to come from a place

• My boss hails from Shandong.

Wait your turn: to wait until it is really your turn to get or do something

• Waiting your turn is simply the polite and respectable thing to do.

 

Just because A, doesn't mean B: [A] is true, [B] is not necessarily true as a result.

• Just because I stopped eating, doesn't mean I'm full.
