1 很多的(many)

a host of、a multitude of、numerous、scores of这一组词与many一样，都是修饰可数名词。

例句：

The rise in car ownership may lead to a host ofproblems.

汽车数量的增加可能会造成很多问题。

很多的(much)

a great deal of、a wealth of

这一组词主要是修饰不可数名词。

a great deal of相比于a lot of来说更加正式一点，写作中可以使用。

例句：

It takes a great deal of effort to become proficient inEnglish.

要想精通英语，需要付出很多努力。

2 a wealth of

带有较强的褒义色彩，修饰的名词一般是有用的/好的东西。

例句：

This job requires a wealth of experience.

这份工作要求丰富的经验。

There is a wealth of information available about humanhistory.

关于人类历史的信息非常之多。

3 缺乏(lack)

lack of、a dearth of、inadequate/insuffcient

lack既可以是可数名词，也可以是不可数。

因此，lack of和alack of两种形式均可。

例句：

Health problems often result from poor diet and (a) lack of regular exercise.

健康问题通常来源于饮食良当和缺乏锻炼。

注：lack作动词时是及物动词，后面直接加宾语，

不能加of：

College graduates may lack the experience required for such jobs.

大学毕业生可能缺乏这类工作所需的经验。

a dearth of缺乏，就相当于a shortage of/a scarcity of。

例句：

There is a dearth of information on this subject.

关于该主题的信息非常少。

形容词inadequate表示不足的，同insufficient。

常用短语：inadequate to do sth。

例句：

There is inadequate information on this subject.

=Information on this subject is inadequate.

Existing laws are inadequate to deal with these problems.

现有的法律不足以解决这些问题。
