比较一下以下两个句子so that表达的逻辑关系有何差异呢？

We paid him immediately so that he left contented.  

We paid him immediately so that he would leave contented.  

so that引导目的状语从句或者结果状语从句

so that = show purpose or give an explanation

e.g. Elizabeth set her alarm so that she would not be late for class.

But my father had described over and over again what we should see at every milestone, after leaving the nearest town, so that I was positive I should recognize it as familiar territory.

当然，so that可以简化成so

e.g. We want the babies to think we are cranes so we can teach them.

We want the babies to think we are cranes so that we can teach them.

 

Alice got up at 5:00 A.M., so that she could drive her son to school.

Alice got up at 5:00 A.M., so she could drive her son to school.

  

注：Every occurrence of 'so that' can be replaced with 'so' without losing meanings, but not vice versa.
