Duan Jiayang, a 12-year-old student of a primary school in Yinchuan, Ningxia, learns the skills required to take care of vegetable fields.

There were several barren mountains and a dirty river in my hometown. There was much rubbish and people lived a hard life. It was a poor and backward little town.
But now, there are green mountains, clean water, fresh air and lots of birds and flowers. The streets have been widened. Factories, schools, hospitals, cinemas and theatres have sprung up one after another. The life of the people has greatly improved.
