Applicants to this Ph.D. programme are expected to have completed a full Master of Science Programme in natural sciences or engineering in a related field such as biology, chemistry, physics, computer science or medicine when the Ph.D. is started.
The students to this programme will be admitted from M.Sc. (Bioinformatics) programme of NTU-SCE (Track 1) and from regular Ph.D. applicants from any other University (Track 2). For Track 2 applicants, the full dossier of the application should be directed to NTU-SCE by the respective deadlines (January 30th and June 30th in every year).
Once the applicants are short-listed jointly by SCE and BII, they will be directed to apply on-line via Graduate Studies Office (GSO) of NTU admission website and send in their hardcopies of their application forms.

Exemption from the coursework courses may be granted by the Associate Chair (Research) if the candidate is deemed to have already done sufficient coursework in the relevant area in a Master's degree programme at a recognised University. Minimum number of courses required (including exemption, credits transferred and "Pass" / "Fail" courses ) is 6 courses.

PhD Programme in Cognitive Systems and Visual Computing
Research Topics
Candidates will pursue a chosen research topic of interests under the broad areas of cognitive systems and visual computing. The potential research topics of interests may include but are not limited to the following
Programme Structure
Each PhD student will be co-supervised by an SCE faculty member and an I2R research scientist. Existing NTU processes for PhD student supervision, assessment and graduation will be used. The PhD research topic will be jointly identified and agreed upon by the SCE and I2R supervisors, with the supervisor from SCE carrying the responsibility for academic affairs.
The PhD candidate should fulfill all the coursework, research and other requirements as stipulated by NTU-SCE for the award of the PhD degree that will be awarded by NTU.
