Philip the Fair was the son of the Holy Roman EmperorMaximilian I and Mary, Duchess of Burgundy. He wears the insigniaof the Order of the Golden Fleece, a small ram’s fleece on a chain.Only the most important nobles and princes could become members ofthe Order of the Golden Fleece.
Philip the Handsome (1478-1506) was the son of the Holy RomanEmperor Maximilian I. He became King Philip I of Castile in 1504.His portrait was painted by an unknown master active at the end ofthe 15th and the beginning of 16th century in Bruges and Brussels,who is referred to as the Master of the Mary Magdalen Legend.
