1. 表示年、月、日、时刻等用 at, on, in
a) at 用于表示时刻、时间的某一点：
atnine (o'clock) 在九点 at dawn 拂晓时 at noon 正午时 at present目前
b) on 用于某天，某一天的上、下午：
on Monday 在周一
on June 6 在
on May 4, 1996 在
on a cold night 在一个寒冷的夜晚
on the night of July 1st 在
*指具体的某一天时，一律用on
泛指一般的上午（下午）时用in，但特指某日的上午（下午）时用on：
in the morning 在早上
on Sunday morning 在周日早上
在重大节日前也可用on：
on Christmas Eve 在圣诞前夜
on New Year's Day 在元旦
c) in 用于表示周、月、季节、年，泛指的上午、下午、晚上：
in this week 在这周
in May 在五月
in spring 在春季
in 2010 在2010年
in September, 1995 在1995年9月
in the morning 在早上
2. 表示期间等用 for, during, through/throughout
a) for 引导一段时间，强调时间由始至终，可译为“长达……”，一般与有长度的时间短语连用：
We will stay in the city for two days. 我们要在那里呆两天。
He has lived here for a long time. 他在这儿已经住了很久了。
b) during 意为“在……（期间）内”的行为或状态。
一般与一段时间的整体连用。如：during the spring, during last year,during 1980 等，也可以和表示延续性事件的名词连用，如：during my childhood,during the lesson, during his visit等。
*for之后大多跟表示时间、天数等的数字名词，而during后决不能跟表数字的名词。
in与during：
during 用来表示一段时间，其意义大致相当于 in 的用法。一般来说，凡是能用 in 的地方，也可以用 during：
Don't go to see his wife in his absence. 当他不在的时候不要去见他妻子。
He came to see me during my absence. 当我不在的时候他来看我了。
during 与 in 的区别在于，during 强调时间的延续性，而 in 只是一般指某一时间。试比较：
They visited many cities during their stay in China. 呆在中国期间他们走访了很多城市。
Her grandpa was killed in the war. 她的祖父死于战争中。
c) through/throughout 表示“一直……”，强调从开始到结束：
They played the cards throughout the night. 他们打了一整夜的牌。
I'll be staying at camp for five days, Monday throughFriday. 我将露营五天，从星期一到星期五。
3. 表示期限等用 before, by,until/till, (from...) to, within, in
a) before与by
before 指“在……之前” ：
Please comebefore ten o'clock. 请10点以前来。
by 指“在……前（时间）；截至（到）……”：
How manyEnglish books had you read by the end of last year? 到去年年底以前你看过多少本英文书？
表示“在……以前”时，before 与 by 基本可通用。但 by 还有“截至……为止”之意：
How manymodels have you made by the end of last month? 截至上月底你做了多少个模型？
b)until/till与to
until/till 指“直到……为止”，until 和 till 可以通用：
until/tillseven o'clock 直到7点
由 until/till 形成的句子，句中的动词如果是短暂性动词，则必须用否定句：
I'll waitfor him until he comes here. 我将在这儿一直等到他来。（wait 是延续动词，用肯定式）
We didn'tbegin to watch TV until/till nine o'clock. 一直到九点，我们才开始看电视。（begin 是短暂性动词，所以用否定式）
till/until 常用于"from...till/until"结构中，表示“一个动作的终结”；to 常用在"from...to"的结构中，用来表示“一个阶段的终结”。两者在这种结构中意义十分接近：
He studiesfrom morning till/until night everyday. 他每天从早到晚学习。
TheAmericans stayed here from June to September. 这些美国人从六月到九月都呆在这里。
但如果句中没有 from...，就要用 till/until 而不用 to：
Let's startnow and work till dark. 让我们现在开始工作一直到天黑。（这里不能用to。）
c) within与in
within 和in 后都必须跟时间段。within 强调“在……时间之内”，没有时态的限制； in 是以现在为基准，in an hour 是指从现在起1小时之后，所以一般用于将来时：
He will beback in five hours. 他五小时之后回来。
They workedhard. They finished the work within 2 days at last. 他们努力工作，结果终于他们在两天之内完成了这项工作。
I mustfinish painting the cat within/in five minutes. 我必须在五分钟之内画好这只猫。
4. 表示时间的起点等用 from, since
a) from 表示“从……开始”时，常用词组"from...to..."：
The meetingwill be held from eight to ten. 这个会议将从8点开到10点。
而单纯表示确切的从几点开始时可用at：
The examwill start from/at 9:00 am. 考试将从上午九点开始。
b) since 指“自从……以来”，表示从以前某时一直到现在仍在继续，通常用于完成时： I have beensick since yesterday. 我从昨天就病了。（一直到现在）
We have beenmissing them since they left here. 自从他们离开这里，我们就一直很想念他们。
