Ship orders

1. Standard Wheel Orders

All wheel orders given by captain or officers should be replied by the helmsman and then upon completion the helmsman should report immediately. E.g.

Order            Reply            Report

Port five        Port five        Wheel's port five

2. Standard engine/telegraph orders

Where thrusters are used, the following orders are used:

Bow thruster full to port.

Bow thruster full to starboard.

Bow thruster half to port.

Bow thruster half to starboard.

Stern thruster full / half to port / starboard.

Bow / stern thruster stop

3. Anchoring orders

Check the anchor position by …/ every … minutes.

-How much cable is out?    -… shackle (s) is / are out.

-How is the cable growing?  -The cable is slack / tight/ medium weight.

Dragging (of anchor): Moving of an anchor over the sea bottom involuntarily because it is no longer preventing the movement of the vessel.

Dredging (of anchor): Moving of an anchor over the sea bottom to control the movement of the vessel.

Shackle: Standard length (15 fathoms) of an anchor cable

4. Mooring and unmooring orders

Mooring lines:

Head line       头缆

Stern line       尾缆

Breast line    横缆 

Spring  　倒缆　

Heaving line      撇缆
