rather than是一个常用词组，意思是“而不是……”。

“It's when you want to express that it's better to do one thing than another.”

比如：“I would rather eat Chinese food than Japanese food.” 

但rather than难的不是意思和用法，而是它的读音。因为它有两个“th”。
