One busy morning,Mother Cat sat down and wrote a letter.When she finshed,she had a problem.
Oh fishsticks! Out of stamps. Someone must go to the Post Office.

噢，不好了，没有邮票了。看来，有人要去趟邮局哦~
Mother Cat called her seven children.Which two would go to town and mail the letter?

Her youngest kittens were very sad.
They had never been to town without Mother Cat.

为什么她们不能有一次机会呢？
How the older kittens laughed!Send the babies to town?Even shadows scared them.

But Mother Cat was fair.She knew the little kittens were right.It was their turn,after all.
让最小的猫咪去镇上，连影子都会吓到它们的。

Mother Cat gave the letter to her youngest yellow kitten,and a coin to her youngest blue kitten.
Now go straight to the Post Office,buy a stamp,and mail this very important letter.
Proud and puffed-up,the happy kittens started on their way to town.
猫妈妈把信交给她最小的小黄猫咪，把一个硬币交给小蓝猫咪。现在去邮局，买一枚邮票，然后把这封非常重要的信寄出去。信心满满的，开心的小猫踏上了去镇上的路。
The cat caught the rat,Heigh-o the derry-o,The cat caught the rat.

The road ahead seemed to go on and on forever.
前的路，看上去怎么都走不完。
Each step took the kittens farther and farther away from home.
每走一步，小猫咪们离家就越来越远了。
Suddenly,Yellow Kitten began to wonder and worry about scarey things.
That would be bad.
突然，小黄猫咪开始担心一些可怕的事情。
如果发生一些不好的事情怎么办呢？如果你把妈妈的硬币丢了怎么办？
这样会很糟糕。
"What if I sneeze,"Blue Kitten agreed,
"and the coin jumps out of my paw?"
Ahhh-Choooooo
"And it starts rolling away,"Yellow Kitten added,"faster and faster and faster?"

But the scaredy cats did not turn back.
They walked on down the road to town.

Before long,the kittens came to the bridge.
Suddenly,Bule kitten began to wonder and worry about scarey things.
"What if something awful happen when we cross over?
How awful.

突然，小蓝猫咪开始想象和担心一些可拍的事情。

多糟糕啊！
What if a giant troll cat jumps up out of the water,"
Yellow Kitten agreed,"growling and yowling at us?"
Grrrrr yowl!
"And he grabs us and shakes us,"
Blue Kitten added,"and wants to eat us up?"
小黄猫很赞同地说道：如果从水里钻出来一只巨大的怪物猫，
对着我们又喊又叫该怎么办呀？
啊~~~
它还可能抓着我们，摇晃我们，
小蓝猫同意地说道：它想把我们吃掉。
我要把你们当零食吃掉。
" And he sees the coin shining in our paws,"
Yellow Kitten said,"and takes it from us?"
The scaredy cats thought about turning back,but they kept on going.
小黄猫说道：它可能还会看到我们手上闪闪的硬币，它会拿走硬币。
胆小的猫咪们想着要退缩，但是他们还是继续前进了。
On the other side of the bridge,the kittens tiptoed into the forest.
Suddenly,Yellow Kitten began to wonder and worry about scarey things.
"What if something dreaful happens?
How dreadful.
在桥的另外一边，小猫咪们蹑手蹑手地在森林里走着。
突然，小黄猫又开始担心一些可怕的事情。
如果有一些可怕的事情发生怎么办呢？
如果我把妈妈的信弄丢了怎么办呢？
多么糟糕啊！
"What if a howling wind comes along?"Blue Kitten agreed,"and rips the letter out of your paws?"
"And the wind throws the letter down into the leaves?"Yellow Kitten added.
如果大风来了怎么办了？如果大风撕扯你的信怎么办了？
它会不会把信吹到满地的树叶里去了？
"And we look and look for it,until we are grey and whiskered,"Blue Kittens said,"but never find it?"
Yep……
Even though the scaredy cats wanted to go back home,they kept on walking through the forest.
小蓝猫补充到：我们找呀找，直到我们都变老了，长满了胡须都找不到它呢？
就算用我们长长的胡子，我们也一定要尽快找到它。
是的是的……
尽管胆小的猫咪们很想回家，但是他们还是继续前进走过森林了。
Soon,they came to the long,dark tunnel.Suddenly,Blue Kitten began to wonder and worry about scarey things.
"What if something terrible happens?
How terrible.
很快，他们就来到长长的黑暗的隧道这里。
突然小蓝猫开始担心起一些可怕的事情。
如果有可怕的事情发生怎么办？
如果有人偷走妈妈的信怎么办？
多么可怕呀！
"What if cat-bandits are inside,waiting for uw?"Yellow Kitten agreed.
Heh,heh,heh!
Shhhhhhhhhh!Here they come.
"What if they have claws like knives,"
Blue Kitten added,"and red-gleaming cat eyes?"
小黄猫说：如果洞里有强盗等着我们怎么办呀？
嘿嘿嘿~~~
嘘嘘嘘，他们来了。
如果他们有像刀子一样锋利的爪子，
还有红红的，闪闪的眼睛怎么办呀？
"And they surround us,"Yellow Kitten said,
"and tie us up with ropes,and leave us shivering in the dark,cold tunnel?"

Still,the scaredy cats kept on going,through the tunnel and out the other side.
小黄猫说：他们把我们包围了，用绳子把我们绑在又冷又黑的山洞里怎么办？
我好冷啊~

虽然两只小猫咪很害怕，但是他们还是继续前进，穿过隧道，到达另外一边。
There,they found the nettle field.
The kittens walked on through the tall weeds.
Suddenly,Yellow Kitten began to wonder and worry about scarey things."What if something woeful happens?What if we get lost?"
How woeful.
在那里，他们发现了一片荨麻地。
小猫咪们穿过高高的杂草。
突然，小黄猫开始担心一些可怕的事情，
他说：如果有不幸的事情发生怎么办？如果我们迷路了呢？
那样真的太不幸了。
"What if an evil cat-witch casts a spell,"
Blue Kitten agreed,"and turns the whole world into nettle fields?"
Abra-cat-dabra,grow nettles grow!
"And all the cats and towns are lost and hidden in the nettles,"Yellow Kitten added,
Goosey-Goosey Gander,
whither dost thou wander?Heh,heh.
Help!Help!
"and we never find the Post Office?"
如果我们遇上巫师对我们施魔法怎么办？

The scaredy cats wished they could go back home,but they walked on through the nettles,until they came to the high,rocky ledge.
Suddenly,Blue Kitten began to wonder and worry about scarey things.
"What if something hideous happens?
What if someone steals us?"
How hideous.
这两只胆小的猫咪真希望能够回家去，但是他们没有退缩，继续往前走，穿过了荨麻地，来到高高的山崖边。
突然，小蓝猫又开始担心不好的事情了。
如果有可怕的事情发生怎么办？
如果有人来偷我们呢？
太可怕了。
"What if a great,screeching bird snatches us?"Yellow Kitten agreed.
Screech.
"And takes us to its nest,high on a mountain top,"Blue Kitten added.
小黄猫非常同意地说道：如果有一只尖叫的大鸟把我们抓走怎么办呢？
发出刺耳的声音。
把我们抓到它的窝里去，那个窝在高高的山顶上。
"And,"Yellow Kitten said,"we have to feed and care for its ugly babies."
到时候，我们还要替它喂养它丑丑的宝宝。
Even now,the scaredy cats kept on going.They did not turn back.
Watch your step.Follow my tail.
Hurray!At the bottom of the ledge,the kittens came into town,and the Post Office was not hard to find.
即使到现在，两只担心的猫咪，还是继续前进，没有退缩。
小心点，抓住我的尾巴。
万岁，下了山崖之后就到镇子上了，而且邮局也不难找。
看呀，它在那里，我们快走吧！
But when they ran up to the door,a truly bad and awful and dreadful and terrible and woeful and hideous thing happened.
The Post Office was closed for the day.

How could the kittens go home without finishing their job?

She treated them all to fishberry cones.

At last,the kittens started for home,with Grandmother Cat following close behind.
On the way,they wondered and worried about scarey things-but not very much.
最后，猫咪们开始回家了，猫奶奶紧紧跟在后面。
在路上，他们想象和担心一些可怕的事情，但是没那么害怕了。
