What happens when we die? A recount of my near dea...

I probably have been very close to death three times in my life so far. One in Kenya, one in Tibet and one in Fiji (yes I am adventurous!). However, I would probably only call the last one in Fiji as a real near death experience (NDE)–as I had really set one foot in heaven then back.

Whereas the other two incidents (Kenya and Tibet), I was lucky to avoid something that could have had happened to me.

---

About 4 years ago, me and my mum went to Fiji for holiday. Upon our arrival at the hotel, I drew notice to a poster that says “Experiencing Open Water Shark Diving in Fiji”. I was immediately intrigued.

After doing my ‘research’ and double checking with as many locals as possible, the conclusions I drew were these:

1)  Fiji was one of the few places in the world where you could actually do an open water shark diving (as opposed to the normal shark cage diving);

2)  Sharks in Fiji are super friendly (no, they don’t eat humans –actually sharks don’t eat humans. They only eat humans when they are confused or mistaken humans as fish, and this normally happens when humans are afraid, normally accidental);

       3)Many locals have seen the sharks and loved it.

So as a young, ambitious and curious human being, I signed up for this adventure.

In order to do an open water shark diving, becoming a certified scuba diver is a prerequisite, as you have to dive in about 30-50 metres to see the sharks. This course normally takes about 5 days to complete.

The first day we were training at a swimming pool, which was all cool except I didn’t really like wearing the mask and breathing through my mouth instead of my nose.

The second day began our first proper training in the ocean. We first dived in about 10 metres under the water.

While I was diving under the water, I remember some water got into my mask and I couldn’t see where everyone else was. Then I started to panic as the water in my mask not only had blocked my vision and it was really making me feel unconformable and I felt like I couldn’t breath (as I was trying to breath through my nose).

Instead of just tilting the mask slightly and let the water out, I did the most stupid thing on earth (or under the water!) –to take out the mask/regulator, the only thing that could assist me breathing under the water!

Then I realised I really couldn’t breathe and I was struggling like a helpless child…my dive master must had seen me and he quickly came over to me and pressed the emergency ascent bottom.

He was also trying to forcefully pushed the regulator into my mouth. Because I was too overly panic, all I could remember was resisting and kicking him (poor dive master…)

I did remember breathing through my mouth once or twice and swallowed more seawater in my life than I could ever remembered…Because I was too afraid and too panic, I couldn’t remember what I was supposed to do at all except just struggling a lot under the water to a point of exhaustion, and I knew I was dying due to lack of oxygen…

Then I saw this bright white light opened up just above me. I saw clear images of my loved ones and how I was bidding farewell with them. I also remember bidding farewell to my mum and remember thinking poor mum she probably didn’t know what happened (she was still in the hotel room) …

The funny thing was once I saw the bright white light, I was no longer struggling and I was not afraid anymore. There was tremendous quietness, sense of peace and tranquillity. My mind had almost stopped but I was still fully conscious, and there was no pain.

Then maybe after five to ten seconds, miraculously, I got back up to the water (as I was probably about 8 metres down the water, so it wasn’t too deep).

I was probably unconscious for a while as I wasn’t sure if I was in heaven or already back on earth. Everybody was speaking to me, but I didn’t feel like responding, still trying to digest what had happened…

I looked around my surroundings, blue sky, green crystal clear ocean, paradise on earth…I felt like I had been reborn. I also felt sense of freshness, joy and delight… and I thank God for bringing me back to life again.

I wasn’t spiritual at all at that time. If anything, I was a realistic atheist with a pragmatic approach in life.

After that experience, I went home and did some research on near death experience and also gathered that many people who had near death experience all had similar sight such as seeing lots of light, or their souls got out of their bodies, or talking to Jesus/Buddha or other angels…

I didn’t have an out-of-body experience nor did I talk to any one Godly except my families! It was probably also because my near death experience was rather short so I didn’t have enough time to do all those things!

However, I did have an out-of-body experience about one and a half year ago, not long after I got back from India and meditate probably five times a day (maybe another article on that).

After I ‘turned’ spiritual and started digging more information about afterlife, reincarnation et cetera. I do firmly believe that there is no death on earth. What we consider as death, is merely our soul leaving our body and I also believe inreincarnation.

I remember not long after my father “left his body”, probably after one month. I had a dream one night vividly (too vivid that it didn’t seem like a dream at all!), I remember he told me that he was all fine. I asked where had he gone? He said he was always here. I knew that he must have been reincarnated (to what I don’t know, but I believe he was reincarnated).

Reincarnation probably also explains why some people when they were born they could remember their previous life (most people forget). Also they would display some talents or already seem to know a great deal about a certain field.

Also the phenomenon of de jeva. When we meet someone or see something for the first time, we felt like we’ve already known this person for a long time or we have already seen something before but in fact, we had never known such a person or seen such a thing before.

Again you can choose to either believe or disbelieve. It is not my job to convince people to believe in what I said. I am merely sharing my experiences and belief.

Just to end my story on my Fiji adventure, after being back on the water and slowly regaining my senses back, the dive master asked if I would still like to continue. I said yes without much hesitation. (Because I know 2 things: 1) death is not scary; 2) never pull out my regulator no matter what!)

I had the most amazing shark diving experience in Fiji. I probably saw about 30 plus tiger sharks, swimming around me, above me, below me… it was really a once in a lifetime experience.

And I would highly recommend people who really like diving and want to experienceopen water shark diving to go to Fiji.  Also, Fiji is a lovely country to visit regardless! People are so beautiful inside and out. I had a great time there!

PS. I have also realised that there have always been guardian angels around me wherever Igo. That is why I was always very lucky to avoid some seemingly dangerous situations.

I’m grateful for my experience and my guardian angels.

Love, Peace & Namaste
