China has secured the services of World Cup-winning coach Marcello Lippi to try and help the beleagured men's national team. The legendary Italian and former Guangzhou Evergrande bench boss has been officially named by the Chinese Football Association to replace former coach Gao Hongbo.
The CFA said in a statement that the 68-year-old Italian has signed a contract, but did not disclose any further details about his salary, or the length of the deal. Lippi has been linked to the position since Gao submitted his resignation, following China's 2-0 loss at Uzbekistan in 2018 World Cup Qualifying last week. Lippi will make his debut for China in the fifth game of the Asian Zone qualifiers, when the PRC face Qatar on November 15.

The Italian wrote on Twitter, 'I am proud to announce that I will be the coach of China' men's national team and this will be the beginning of my new adventure.'
The 68-year-old Lippi began his first stint in China in 2012, when he was appointed head coach of Guangzhou Evergrande. During his two and a half years in charge, he led the team to win three consecutive Chinese Super League trophies, as well as the 2013 AFC Champions League title, the first time a Chinese club had won the continental crown. Lippi began his coaching career in Italy with Sampdoria. He later moved to Juventus and guided them to 5 Serie A titles and one Champions League title, but his biggest achievement came in 2006 when he coached Italy to victory at the World Cup.
