Egyptian court accepts appeal against releasing Mubarak over illicit gains

CAIRO, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's Cairo Criminal Court accepted Monday the appeal against former court's decision to temporarily release former President Hosni Mubarak over charges of illicit gains, keeping him in prison pending investigations, official MENA news agency reported.
An Egyptian court decided Saturday to temporarily release Mubarak over charges of illicit gains, but to keep him in custody over other cases.
In response, Prosecutor-General Talaat Ibrahim Abdullah decided to appeal the court order of Mubarak's release.
Mubarak is in temporary custody over other two cases, namely the charges of looting public funds allocated for maintenance of presidential palaces and getting deluxe gifts from state-owned newspapers.
He had been serving life imprisonment for involvement in killing protesters in the unrest in January 2011 until Cairo Court of Appeals decided to retry him, his interior minister Habib al- Adli along with six of the latter's security aides.
Mubarak ruled Egypt for about three decades and was toppled after nationwide protests sweeping the country on Jan. 25, 2011.
