Some Westerners are determined to portray China with prejudice and suspicion. "One Belt,One Road" is said to be a power play by China on the geopolitical chessboard. It is claimedthat there are 'strategic motives' behind it. The fact is that "One Belt, One Road" is not ageopolitical tool of any country, but a public good that China is providing to theinternational community, said Liu Xiaoming, China's Ambassador to Britain, on May 21.
Liu said this at a banquet marking the establishment of the seventh anniversary of "YoungIcebreakers" when explaining issues about "One Belt, One Road" .
The "One Road, One Belt" initiative has no military considerations and has nothing to dowith any disputes, it focuses only on economic cooperation and people-to-people exchange,Ambassador Liu pointed out. The geopolitical impact, if one has to give it some kind ofgeographical significance, is to improve interconnection and promote cooperation anddevelopment along the route, which will add impetus to global economic growth and forge astable plate for world peace.
Some also allege that China hopes to reshape the international economic order and have abigger say on the global stage through "One Belt, One Road". Actually, it does not aim toreplace the existing regional cooperation mechanisms and initiatives, but further driveinterconnection and complementary advantages in the economies of the countries along theroute, said Liu.
“One Belt, One Road” is definitely not a "one man show" by China. The countries along theroute will all have their say. It is not a monopoly of any sort. All participants are equal.Decisions will be made through consultations and actions will be taken jointly, Liu furtherexplained.
