Heyang: You are listening to Round Table. You probably already know that every couple fights, but did you know that most couples fight about the same things? As unique as your arguments may feel in the moment, couple’s therapists see the same issues all day long from all sorts of people, and here are a few common fights that couples have, and some quick fixes that can help you resolve them. Let us talk about it.
Ryan: Yes, maybe you are at a dinner that’s one day of a week where you and the hubby get to sit down and enjoy a meal, but then all of a sudden, the hubby whips out the phones. And you know, they won’t be talking to you any time soon. So in which case, you might say something like: All you do is stay on your phone! Uh, you know we have… , so basically you know , you’re busted, right? Sometimes I don’t know as a guy, how you get out of that, I think if I got, I just would never do it. But for those guy that are doing it, realize you know, attention isn’t just when you want it, and that is what matters, but it’s also giving it, so you know relationships are giving and taking, so make sure during those special times, especially if it’s something like dinner. Maybe if you’re both watching TV on a couch, yeah you can whip out your phone, but if it’s dinner, talk to that person, why you are in a relationship otherwise?
Heyang: Yeah, if your boss is really just giving you a hard time, and making you have to answer it ,and then, at least alert to your spouse or significant other and saying you know (Ryan: it’s the boss, I’m sorry) Excuse me, sorry, yeah, (Ryan: #love you#), Yeah, that kind of thing. And also, so, Huangshan, do you have some of the regular fights that we should let everybody know that there is a fix.
Huangshan: Uh I think I haven’t encounter this kind of situation but I guess in the future, maybe after you get married, you will face these fights : oh, you spend too much money (Ryan: No such thing). I have to say I am not a shopaholic but I love shopping I think all girls love shopping. So maybe you will encounter such a situation like the guy says, arguing that oh you spend too much money on your hand bags, your clothes, your shoes, and girls may shout back as: Oh you spend too much money on your video games, that, maybe that’s a common fight.
Ryan: But I need them, Gosh! (Heyang: Yeah，both would say that. ) Ladies will never understand. But that was funny that you were like “I’m not a shop alcoholic, but I love shopping.” Em, another one, Maybe in the bedroom, ok? Magical things happing in the bedroom and if they are not happening, you need to figure out a way to make them happen. And you know, I think for a guy, sometimes, you know you just want to roll over and be like, hey, what’s up, this kind of situation , hey, you know…so… it’s Wednesday, that’s…hey, you know, and that’s, I think for women that’s not romantic, they just like errrr…(Heyang: we like spontaneity.) So remember guys here and I would say girls too you know you can act in on this. Make it’s special, maybe your guys aren’t getting freaky in the bedroom, that’s where you guys you know you have to I think make them feel special, at least try to go out of your way a little bit to be romantic, these kind of things. That I think turns a lady on. And vice versa, ladies, it is pretty easy I think to get you guy in the mood, but that one, another thing that I think can be easily solved. Heyang, what else you’ve got?
Heyang: What about this one, listen to this: You are not doing enough around the house! And that apparently something that people aren’t happy about. And when you have this kind of fight, it’s really important to maybe to sit down together and, (Ryan: hire an “a yi”.) Yeah, well, if money can solve the issue, then that’s not a problem. Or then I think it’s really important to sit down and sort of have that chat and be (Ryan: We just talk to each other, communicate again), yeah, communication is definitely the key.
