鲜血、尖叫、鬼魂、折磨……恐怖片总令人吓到不行。但是为什么有人爱看呢?

为什么恐怖片吓人还爱看? 来自RoundTable英语新闻脱口秀 05:50

赫扬

Yes.Coming up!

Ahhhh no I'm afraid

R

赫扬

Chills...

shall I?

LM

Yeah.

R

Dang-dang-dang

LM

赫扬

That’s so scary. Why do we pay to get scared as we watch horror movies in the cinema? Stick around everybody to find out more on that.

赫扬

You are listening to Roundtable. Ghosts, torture, splatter of blood. That continues to scare us or keeps us returning to the cinema. Horror movies remain one of the most profitable genres in the movie industry. But why do we pay to feel that chill down our spines?

Hemmm…

R

赫扬

Yes, well are you guy’s fans of scary movies?

I am …sometimes, a fan.

R

Same for me. Sometimes.

LM

I would never take a… you know like a date to a scary movie. Because there are times where I do have to close my eyes. I’ll be honest, you know, I’m an honest man. Okay people are totally gonna judge me for this. I watched “The Grudge”. I remember at certain times I was like ohh no. I have to cover my eyes coz I’m like NOO. It’s too much to see. And you might be like, well Ryan, Gosh it’s just a movie. But according to Glenn Sparks, a professor at the Communication Department at Purdue University. He studies the effects of horror films on viewer’s psychology, physiology these kind of things. When people watch horrific images, their heartbeat increases as much as 15 beats per minute. bong-bong-bong-bong . And their palms sweat and their skin temperature drops several degrees, their muscles tense. Basically, emotionally even though you are watching it, your brain is living what’s happening to the person on the screen.  So basically, there is a part of your brain, that’s replicating all the feelings that the person you are watching is feeling …so why do we do that?

R

We.. get bored. We want some excitement in life.

LM

Thrill seeking.

R

It’s like eating hotpot. I’m not a big fan of hotpots. But sometimes you just want that spicy, you just want that temperature, that hot meat that melts in your month, you just want that. But you can’t handle it everyday.

LM

It makes a great point.

R

赫扬

Inmoderate doses. Well I think for me, I’m a fan of horror movies and I would be thrilled if my date takes me to a horror movie. Coz it’s the time, that rare chance, that the guy can sort of act ..you know…

Chivalrous?

LM

赫扬

you know being a big man kind of thing.

Unless he freaks out.

LM

赫扬

Yes, but usually girls, if you are kind of into that guy, you are giving him that opportunity. You know, and you can look at the big scare that shows up on the screen and you are like omg I’m so scared, and then…yea..so…

Everything happens naturally.

LM

I do want to say tho, in my defense here. I do like scary movies and in fact there is this  movie called, “It” that I really want to see. Because there are some guys, like I’ve seen some of the manliest dudes, that clowns just freak them out, they are like OHHHH NOOOO

R

赫扬

They are the best.

Get that away from me you know. I’ve never been afraid of clowns. But some people, It’s a death..like they are deathly afraid. So this movie is their kryptonite. But I think Laiming touches on a very good point here, that people like to live to feel what it is like, to have life be balanced. You know either you feel like you are about to die or you are not gonna make it in time, this feeling, though it’s scary, you’ve never lived more, So people chase it, I totally agree with Laiming. This is a form of adrenaline rush , much like the hotter hotpots are.

R

赫扬

Yea i tend to agree with you on this one, I do think horror, it speaks to fundamental human needs, and because it kind of helps us to face the fear without really being in danger, so you just wanna have that feeling, and also when you look at the production cost, making a horror movie is actually operating on a really small budget. It doesn’t always need big stars and no fancy locations, but the revenue that comes from the box office, well sometimes it is so much bigger.

Yea, but for those of you out there. You’ve probably just got done with your horror movie marathon seeing as how yesterday was Halloween. So maybe it’s okay to take a break and relax. You’ve had your adrenaline rush

R

赫扬

You can’t have that everyday, just like you can’t have hot pot everyday. You are listening to Roundtable, with myself Heyang, Ryan Price and Laiming. That’s it for today, have a wonderful day. Bye bye everybody!
