原因之一是外国人逻辑哲学层面崇尚客观实物,将动词“名词化”,也就相当于剥夺了动词可能产生的时态、语态、人称和语气上的相应变化,从而更好地凸显“纪实”作用,也就是以物作主语,提高了语言表达的客观度。
举个栗子:
After the factory has introduced the new equipment, the production increased steadily.
在这家工厂引进新设备后,产量稳步提升。
这个句子中主语动词是引进“has introduced”,有了时态上的变化;分析其含义,是新设备的“引进”才导致产量提升,而不是工厂本身,最客观最重要的因素是“引进”。
因此,此时需要将“引进”的含义名词化,置于句首,充当主语,赋予其更高的地位。变为:
The introduction of the new equipment in the factory has led to a steady increase in production.
此句直接翻译为:“这家工厂新设备的引进导致了在产能方面的稳定增加。”当然。更加合理的翻译还是上文中那样。
