“晚婚”到底是“marry late”还是“marry later”呢？

最近45岁的林志玲姐姐结婚了，

这让大家的关注转移到40岁的陈乔恩身上

为何还不结婚呢？

可是，结了婚又如何呢？

其实，晚婚已不是个别现象。

据国家统计局和民政部的数据，

我国的结婚率连年下跌

“晚婚不婚”还上了热搜。

那“晚婚”到底是

“marry late”还是“marry later”呢？

1、如何表达'结婚”？

• marry sb：嫁给某人，娶了某人

She married him one year ago.

• get married：结婚

We’re getting married next week.

我们下周结婚。

• tie the knot：结婚

tie是“系”，knot是“结”， tie the knot就像中文中“结为连理”“结为夫妻”。

They tied the knot at a young age.

他们在年纪很小的时候结的婚。

• get hitched：结婚

hitch是“勾住，套住”，也有直接表示“结婚”的意思。跟tie the knot意思差不多。

Did they get hitched? 他们结婚了吗？

2、晚婚

marry late VS marry later

• marry later: 晚婚
• marry late: 结婚晚

为什么“晚婚”是marry later而不是marry late呢？

Marry later强调的是个人的选择，选择晚一点。而marry late则带有他人评价色彩，结婚太晚了。

比如父母可能对上了年纪还没结婚的孩子说：

Don’t marry late. 不要太晚才结婚。

但孩子可能会说：

I enjoy being single and I prefer marry later. 我很享受单身，我宁愿晚婚。

另外，“晚婚”也可以这样说：

• put off marriage: 推迟结婚

I’ll put it off until I’m mature enough.

我会到我足够成熟了再结婚。

I don’t even have money to pay the rent. I’ll put my marriage off.

.我连付房租的钱都没有。我会晚点结婚。

3、单身

表达“单身”有好几种说法：

• Sb is single:某某是单身。
• Sb is unattached. 某某是单身。
• Sb is unmarried. 某某未婚。
• Sb is not with anyone. 某某是单身。

The guy looks really cute. 那男的看起来好帅。

He’s Mike. He’s not with anyone. 他是麦克。 还是单身哦。

问别人有没有对象可以说：

• Are you with anyone?你有对象吗？
