    四、讲座主题：From British Railways to the Chinese Corridor: The Economics of Geography in South Asia 1947 to 2017

内容简介：This lecture will discuss how geography can be a deep determinant of economic growth. How the prospects for economic growth in 1947 were influenced by location, health, weather and how these factors have changed in the intervening decades. Professor McCartney will also look at how problems of geography can be dealt with through technology, migration, medical treatments and transport (here including the prospects of the Chinese corridor in Pakistan). The lecture will focus on India and Pakistan but draw references/ examples from other countries including Sri Lanka, the US and China.
