正确区分使用decide, determine……四个词！

decide, resolve, determine, settle四个词都是含有‘决定’的意思的，但是决定与决定之间也是有区别的，而你在使用的时候都使用对了吗？

一、decide

decide是对某一个引起怀疑、动摇、辩论或者是争执的问题，经过考虑或者是磋商，然后砸从几种可能里面做出比较合理的选择或判断。因此decide所表达的决定会含有消除疑惑、犹豫或争 执的意味在里面。

例如：

He has decided not to go with you.

What decided you to give up the trip?

After some discussion it was decided that the problem be referred to higher authorities.

二、determine

determine作为动词本身是没有决定的意思，它的本意为判决，判定，确定。而决定这个意思是引申出来的，其所表达出来的决定意思为：确定界限或范围，也就是对问题或事情的具体细节进 一步的加以确定，使它们的性质、特点、范畴以及方向明确无疑。它还可以表示下决心，在表示下决心这个含义的时候，可以用过去分词determined作形容词,说明一种状态,即任何东西都不能动 摇和改变这一确定的决心。

例如：

The club decided on a lecture series and appointed a committee to determine the speakers and the dates.

The news determined him against further delay.

We are determined to get the task finished before the end of the month.

三、settle

settle也是有表达决定的意思，且语气上比decide要强得多。它表示在消除所有的疑虑、迟疑和争执之后,从思想上作出最后的符合逻辑的选择，但有时也指任何个人都不负责任的结局。

例如：

Your appointment is as good as settled

The Supreme Court of the United States has power to settle all questions of law.

The committee finally settled on a day for the fair.

四、resolve

resolve意指打定主意做某事或不做某事。在表示决心时,同determine的一部分含义很相似,但是在表示决心、理由和目的方面,语义更强。它还可指某一团体经过辩论或讨论后,对某个问题作 出决议。

例如：

She was resolved to become a ballet dancer.

The boy resolved to get up earlier in the mornings.

The clerical staff resolved to lodge a protest against the new award.

提醒：在determine to do..., determine on (upon)...和determine...，(宾词从句)这三个搭配中，determine的词义和decide几乎没有多大差异。
