“课”到底是“class”，“lesson”，“lecture”还是“course”？

class，lesson，lecture，course这些名词均含“课”之意。你能分清它们吗？

class

n. 课；上课 

an occasion when a group of students meets to be taught

以集体为单位接受教育的情景

从“班级”引申指学生在一起上课，还可表示“(一节)课”。

例：

I was late for a class.

我上课迟到了。

I have a history class at 9 o'clock.

我9点钟有历史课。

lesson

n. 一课时；课；教学单元

something that is intended to be learned

被教授的内容的单位

主要指教材中的一课或每次授课的单位时间。

例：

The course book is divided into 30 lessons.

这本教科书分为30课。

lecture

n. 指讲课。

a talk that is given to a group of people to teach them about a particular subject, often as part of a university or college course

（通常指大学里的）讲座，讲课，演讲 

例：

Neither the subject nor the title of this lecture is of my own choice. 

这次讲演的主题与题目都不是我自己选定的。

What I'm going to do in this lecture is focus on something very specific 

我在今天的讲座中将主要探讨一些非常具体的问题。

course

n. 课程

a series of lessons or lectures on a particular subject

（有关某学科的系列）课程，讲座 

指在一段时间内教完或学完的完整的课程。

例：

She did a secretarial course. 

她学习了文秘课程。

Cornell University offers a course that investigates how language relates to particular cultural codes 

康奈尔大学开设了一门研究语言与特定文化符号之间如何关联的课程。
