Alice is getting ready to go for a job interview. Her friend Mary is

helping her.

Alice : I can’t believe I’m so nervous, I can’t even decide what to wear.

Alice : I know you’re right, but this is the part about getting a job

that I hate the most.

Mary : Really? Why? Maybe if we can figure out why it bothers you so much,

feels like this before an interview.

Alice : If that’s true how come so many make it seem so easy?

Mary : I guess some people are just better at hiding their nervousness.

job Mary! I think I might be more freaked now than I was a moment ago.

Mary : No problem at all, what are best friends for?

Alice : At the moment, I’m not entirely sure.

Mary : Honestly, you look perfect, that is a great combo and I am sure you

are going to do great.

Alice : Thanks, I had better get going, I don’t want to risk missing the

bus and getting there late.

Mary : Actually, I arranged for Scott to drive you in today.

Alice : Really, your brother is here?

Mary : Yep, and you know he works in the Human Resources Department for

his company, so I

show a potential employer that we are not just shopping for any job, but

really want to work for them.

Scott :Right, so I can assume you have done some research on the company?

Alice : Yes and I am ready to quote some statistics to prove it.

Scott : Great! So next be ready to talk about your strengths and

weaknesses.

Alice : I am always a bit shy to say my strengths and I never know what

they are looking for with the weaknesses.

Scott : For your strengths talk about your problem-solving skills and your

ability to work without constant supervision.

Alice : That makes sense. I do have confidence about those things. What

about the weaknesses?

Scott : So many people will tell you to find some positive thing and

disguise it as a weakness.

Alice : You mean like “I can be a real perfectionist”.

Scott : Exactly, but any serious employer will see right through that.

Alice : So what are they looking for?

Scott : They want to know how honest and self-aware you are.

Alice : What do you mean?

Scott : Everyone has weaknesses, but not everyone will admit to it.

Employers look for workers who can recognize their own weaknesses and also

take steps to overcome them.
