      advantage  “优点”、“优势”、“好处”，指胜过他方的有利条件，或因地位优越而获得的优势。有时还可表示“好处”，相当于benefit。

 

      1) By comparison, the advantage of this house is its low price and another one is its easy access to traffic.

           (相比之下,这所房子的优势是其价格便宜,另一个优点是交通便徢。)
   2) The new device has many advantages over the old one.

  （这个新设备比旧设备具有很多优点。）
     3) Her rich experience gave her an advanrage over other applicants for the job.

  (她丰富的经验使她比其他求职者具有优势。)

 

    merit  也可表示“优点”、“长处”、“好处”等意，尤指值得赞扬的优点或长处。

 

    1) The new instrument has practical and convenient merits.

      （新仪器具有实用、方便的优点。）

    2) We find that the system has more merits than any other Internet testing system.

       （我们发现,该系统比其他互联网测试系统具有更多的优点。）

 

    benefit  “好处”，普通用词，可指通过正当手段从物质上或精神上获得的益处。

 
    1) Opportunities can bring us certain benefits, but they also gave us great challenges.

        （机会能给我们带来一定的好处,但是他们也给了我们很大的挑战。）

    2) There is no doubt that you will gain much benefit from your investment to our company.

       （毫无疑问,从你我们公司的投资中你会获得许多利益。）

 

    favor   “好处”，指有在竞争中获得利于自己的好处或利益。

 

     1) They expected political favors in return for their financial help.

        （他们预期从经济援助上获取政治利益。）

     2) We didn’t receive any special favors from the cooperative program with them.

        （从与他们合作计划中我们没有收到任何特别的好处。）
