 give 是普通用词，多用于口语。英语中还有四个词也可表示“给予”的意思，而与give

一样都接双宾语结构。

 

offer  多指主动“给予”、“提供”的意思。offer 可接动词不定式表示“主动提出做
某事”。offer还可用作名词。

 

1) They promise to offer us some necessary assistance if we undertake this formidable task.

          （如果我们从事这项艰巨的任务，他们答应给我们一些必要的援助。）

       2) After consulting with my wife, I decided to accept the job they offered to me.

（与我的妻子商量后,我决定接受他们提供给我的那份工作。）

     3) He offerred to drive his friends to the airport.

            (他主动提出开车送他的朋友去机场。)

       4) He made an offer to drive his friend to the airport 

           (他主动提出开车送他的朋友去机场。)

 

afford 和render是正式用词，多指给予所需的东西。

 

 1) The dense atmosphere of the earth affords protection to man and provides conditions for his existence.

             (地球浓密的大气给人类提供保护，提供人类生存的条件。)

        2) We can confidently assert that any business you afford us will be transacted to your satisfaction.

 （我们满怀信心地向你们保证我们提供给你们的任何业务都将令你们满意。）

 

 3）We render professional services to meet the clients' requirements.

           （我们提供专业服务满足客户的要求。）

 4）We will render you a promotion in the position when an opportunity arises.

(出现机会的话我们会晋升你的职位。)

 

 grant  多指上一级往下给予的钱物、助学金、专项拨款、特权许可等。

 

 1) A guardianship adoption grants the prospective parent the custody of the child in his or her country
of origin.

           （监护收养指给予领养父母在孩子出生国的的监护权。）

 2) At the age of 16, the adolescent is granted certain adult rights by providing him with more freedom
 and choices.

           （到16岁青少年被给予更多的自由和选择从而获得某些成年人的权利。）

 

 

 deny  是“不愿给予”的意思，后接双宾语，相当于refuse to give。

    

1) Some teenagers believe that the society denies them the right of adults, although physically they are
 mature. 

  （有些青少年认为，尽管他们生理上已经成熟但社会没有给予他们成人的权利。）

        2) Middle-aged people who have slow reflexes should be denied a driver’s license.

          （反应慢中年的人应该不给予驾照。）
