近日，北大一男子手提矿泉水和馒头接受采访的视频引发网友热议。有网友认出采访中这位质朴的男子其实是北大“数学大神 ”韦东奕，现任北大数学科学院微分方程教研室研究员。
视频中，他手提着矿泉水和馒头，面向镜头略显羞涩的介绍说：“我是北京大学数学系2010级本科生，2014级研究生，现在是北大老师；高中数学联赛山东省冠军，拿过数学奥林匹克金牌，因此被保送北大。”
In the video, he introduced himself as an undergraduate and graduate student in the School of Mathematical Sciences, a current teacher at Peking University, the champion of Shandong province in the high school mathematics league, and a gold medalist in the Mathematics Olympiad, which has also guaranteed him admission to Peking University.视频的最后主持人让他给今年的考生说一句加油打气的话，他用简单的话语腼腆地说：“加油！欢迎来到北京大学。我也不会说别的。（I don't know whatelse to say but come on and welcome to Peking University! ）”
从外表来看，很难想象这位朴实而又腼腆的男子竟是一位“数学天才”，果然越是优秀的人往往越低调，天才的世界单一而专注。

韦东奕出生在山东的一个高知家庭，父亲是一位大学数学教授，家里存放着很多相关书籍。小时候的韦东奕最大的乐趣就是翻阅父亲的书。
Wei Dongyi was born in Shandong to a highly intellectual family. His father was a university mathematics professor who always kept many mathematics books at home. As a child, Wei Dongyi's favorite hobby was to read his father's books.
初二时，韦东奕被破格收入山师附中的奥数队，与一群高中生共同训练。
Wei Dongyi joined the middle school's Olympiad training team at an early age and trained with a group of high school students in his junior year.
2008年7月21日，在西班牙马德里结束的第49届国际数学奥林匹克竞赛中，16岁的山东师大附中高一男生以满分获得金牌，这个男生就是韦东奕。
Wei Dongyi participated in the 49th Internat-ional Mathematical Olympiad(IMO) and got his results: of six questions, 100 percent accuracy with full marks.在第49届、第50届国际数学奥林匹克竞赛中，韦东奕均以满分获得第一名，他也因此获得了保送北大的资格。

In one of the classes where Wei was the teaching assistant, the professor introduced himself to the students as follows, "If there is something you don't understand when solving a math problem, you can ask me. If I don't know the answer, you can ask the teaching assistant. If the teaching assistant doesn't know it then I guess the topic is wrong."
韦东奕拥有非常强的数学分析和计算能力，已在国际著名数学期刊发表论文十多篇，是富有潜力的青年学者。
Wei Dongyi has very strong mathematical analysis and calculation ability, and has published more than ten papers in international famous mathematical journals. He is a potential young scholar.
