《I Shot The Sheriff》 原唱是Bob Marley，于1973年由The Wailers发行，Bob Marley的版本雷鬼，而Clapton的这个版本布鲁斯味道更浓一些。Bob Marley的歌很多都跟政治挂钩，这首也是，讲述了Marley对当时牙买加政治现状的不满和反抗。故事：主人公承认自己射杀了警长，但没有杀副警长。辩称自己的生命受到了威胁，他只是正当防卫。

今天推荐的Eric Clapton版，被认为是这首歌最成功的版本，在BillboardHot 100上排名第一。2003年，克莱普顿的版本被引入格莱美名人堂。
