【地道英文】与天气有关的8个习语，你多半不认识！

可以说，习语是攻克英语必须要过的坎儿。英文中有大量的习语，它们的特点是：每个单词好像都认识，放在一起后？貌似认识，但却不知道究竟是什么意思。如果掌握的习语量不够，那无论是听还是说都会造成很大的问题。

今天我们来学习8个与天气类的名词相关的习语，但是，它们不一定是描述天气的哦！

1. raining cats and dogs 下着倾盆大雨

It was raining cats and dogs almost all day.

几乎一整天都下着倾盆大雨。

Where are you going? Can’t you see it’s raining cats and dogs? You’ll get soaked in a minute if you go out now.

你去哪儿啊？你看不到下着倾盆大雨吗？ 你现在出去的话，不到一分钟就会被淋成落汤鸡。

2. face (is) like thunder （明显）非常生气

She didn’t say anything

but her face was like thunder.

她一句话没说，但看得出来她非常生气。

I don’t know what was happening. I just saw that a man with a face like thunder was chasing a little boy.

我不知道发生了什么事，我只看到一个怒气冲冲的人在追一个小男孩。

3. a storm in a teacup/teapot 茶杯/茶壶里的风暴；大惊小怪；小题大做

（美语中用法：a tempest in a teacup）

I really think you’re making

a storm in a teapot over this.

It’s just a tiny scratch on the car.

我真觉得你是小题大做。

只不过是车上有条小擦痕而已。

Their fight was just

a tempest in a teapot.

他们的争吵只不过是小题大做。

4. chase rainbows 追逐不切实际的梦想；追寻空中楼阁

He can’t seem to settle down and enjoy life.

He’s always chasing rainbows.

他看来不能安定下来享受生活。

他总是在追寻不切实际的梦想。

My wife never believed

I would make it as a musician;

she always thought

I was just chasing rainbows.

我太太从来不相信我能成为一名音乐家，

她总是觉得我在追寻不切实际的梦想。

5. lightning fast 闪电一样快

（看到这个词忽然想到疯狂动物城中的树懒“闪电”☺）

I don’t think we can keep up with him;

he’s got a lightning fast bike.

我觉得我们追不上他；

他的自行车速度超快。

The robbery lasted only a minute,

and then the robbers disappeared

in a lightning fast car.

抢劫一分钟就结束了，

抢劫犯们坐上一辆飞快的车消失了。

6. (have/with one’s) head in the clouds  心不在焉；想入非非

Do you have your head

in the clouds?

你是不是走神了？

Is your sister in love?

I see her walking around all day

with her head in the clouds.

你姐姐是不是谈恋爱了？

我看她整天心不在焉地走来走去。

7. be snowed under 应接不暇；忙得不可开交

I can’t go;

I’m just snowed under with work.

我去不了。我工作太多了。

I’d love to help you,

but I’m completely snowed under at the moment.

我很想帮你，

但我现在实在是忙得不可开交。

8. under the weather 不舒服；身体不适

I’m feeling under the weather.

I may have the flu.

我感到难受，我可能是感冒了。

Whatever I ate for lunch is making me

feel a bit under the weather.

中午吃的东西让我有点不舒服。
