山不在高，有仙则名。

水不在深，有龙则灵。

斯是陋室，惟吾德馨。

苔痕上阶绿，草色入帘青。

谈笑有鸿儒，往来无白丁。

可以调素琴，阅金经。

无丝竹之乱耳，无案牍之劳形。

南阳诸葛庐，西蜀子云亭。

孔子曰：何陋之有。

A mount’s fame lies

Not in its height,but in its deity.

A lake’s anima lies

Not in its depth, but in its spirit.

It’s a humble cottage indeed

But only my virtues reside.

The doorsteps turn green under the moss,

The room blue within the hue of grass.

Conversing with me are the learned,

Paying no visits to me, the unlearned.

In it, I can play my plain strings,

So can I read the Scriptures.

No noises of low music torture my ears,

My mind is free from burden of official files.

It’s like The Thatched Cottage of Zhuge Liang of Nanyang,

As well as The Pavilion of Ziyun of Xishu.

Confucius remarked: How can a cottage be shabby

with a virtuous man living in it?
