东西方早期印章体系（一）

印章在亚欧大陆历史上曾经先后普遍使用。根据现有的资料，早期印章的主要发源地仍是诸大河文明形成的区域，即两河流域、尼罗河流域、印度河流域和黄河流域及其周边地区。因此，古代东方是印章走进人类社会生活的最早地区。由此为起点，印章文化西进东迁，在中世纪前后扩散到亚欧大部分地区。在美洲和非洲埃及以外地区则基本上没有早期印章的独立出现。

Seals have been used widely at different times on the Eurasian continent. According to current evidence, the major places of origin of early seals are the regions where major river civilizations originated, ie, the Tigris and Euphrates, Nile, Indus and Yellow River basins and their peripheral areas. So the ancient Orient is where seals first entered the social life of mankind. Starting from these places, seal culture expanded both eastwards and westwards. By medieval times, seals had spread to the mojority of regions in Eurasian. But no seal use appeared in the Americas, nor in regions of Africa other than Egypt, during these early times.
