反身代词的强调用法等

Answer：我们今天讲反身代词的强调用法，以及用ourselves, yourselves, themselves 还是 each other。

I. Myself, yourself等词的强调用法  

Reading：

Mrs White doesn’t want to go into an old people’s home, and the social worker himself admits that she’s very independent. “Why should I go into a home ?” asked Mrs White.” The doctor himself said I was still very healthy. I can do most of my housework myself. And look at this cake I’ve made. Could that social worker make a cake like this himself ?”

1．反身代词常用来强调某人独自做了某事没有人帮助，反身代词放在句末。

I can do my housework myself.(= No one helps me.)

Could that social worker make a cake like this himself ?(=without help)

2．有时用反身代词强调一个名词或代词，反身代词就放在被强调的名词或代词之后。

The doctor himself said that I was still very healthy.

(She’s emphasizing that it was the doctor who said this.

3．表示强调时说话的语气重音在最后的音节上(-self  -selves)。

小练习I  加上反身代词表示强调：

1． Mrs White can’t do all her housework.

2． Mrs White admits that she finds some things difficult.

II. 用ourselves, yourselves, themselves 还是 each other ?

Reading：

Mrs White continued: “The old people in the village are very independent. They prefer to look after themselves. But they look after each other too. In fact, we often do things for each other. I cook hot meals for Reg Lawyer next door and he does the shopping for me. We all help one another when it’s necessary”.

1．比较下列两句话，他们的意思不一样。

A The old people in the village look after themselves.

B They look after each other too.

A句的意思是他们依靠自己独立做事。

B句的意思是一个老人帮助另一个老人，是一个双方互动的行为

2．可以说each other或 one another（不过one another通常用于两个人以上，而且较正规。）

We all help each other = We all help one another
