I. Someone/somebody, anyone/anybody, no one/nobody

Reading：

Wei Fang And Fang Qin stopped at a small petrol station in Shengyang. No-one came to serve them. They couldn’t see anyone. “Somebody must be here, because they’ve left the office door open. Perhaps there’s someone in the office. Go and see, Fang Qin. If you find anybody, tell them we want some petrol.” Fang Qin knocked, but no body answered. She went in, but she could see nobody. “Is anybody there ?” No one answered. Then she saw a notice. If nobody’s here, we’re closed, it said.  

1．Someone和somebody意义相同 ，  anyone和anybody, 及 no one和nobody也是。

They couldn’t see anyone. = They couldn’t see anybody.

2．Someone ， anyone, no-one都接单数动词。

Perhaps there’s someone in the office. If nobody’s here, we ’re closed.

但是用 they, them， their 代替 someone等。

Someone must be here, because they’ve left the door open.

If you find anybody, tell them we want some petrol.

3． 通常 someone用语肯定句， anyone用于否定句和疑问句。

Somebody must be here. Is anybody there ? She couldn’t see anybody.

但 anyone 可以用在肯定句中，意思是 it doesn’t matter who

4．No one 后接肯定式动词 。  No one came to serve them.

II. something, anything, nothing

Reading：

I jumped off the bus before it stopped and began walking down the street. As I got everything ready for my report and arrived quite early, I could do anything to make myself at ease. I wanted to spend a few minutes looking at the shop window before the report. This idea made me feel happy. “Do you want something hot?” A boy was trying to sell me something to eat. But just at the moment I suddenly had a strong feeling. “Haven’t I forgot something ?” But what was that “something”? I stopped and began to think. “ Perhaps nothing ?” I put my hands into my pockets . Suddenly I remembered that my bag was gone ! I had left it on the bus. It was full of important paper—the notes of my report ! How could I give the report if I lost it ?The thought was enough to make me start running after the bus, but the bus had already gone.

1． something, anything, nothing 和 someone, anyone, no-one的用法相同。（参见I）

2．anything 可以用于肯定句，意思是： it doesn’t matter what  I could do anything !

3．something(和someone ，somewhere一样)可以用在委婉提问，提供或建议句中。

Do you want something hot ?        Haven’t I forgot something ?
