第61期:What kind of wine should I bring? 我应该带哪种酒赴餐?

「晨读音频」

Hello everyone! Welcome to my channel. I’m Reevs. Good morning!

大家好,欢迎来到懒人英语晨读栏目,我是Reevs,早上好呀。

We are going to purchase some wine today.

今天我们要去买一些葡萄酒。

Today, we’re gonna go to the shop and try to look for some wine that will go well with the type of food there they’ll have.

今天我们要商店,去试着找一些和他们的食物搭配的一些葡萄酒。

And we are going to learn a lot of specific terms.

我们会学习到很多的术语。

Are you ready?

你准备好了吗?

So let’s take a listen to today’s dialogue.

所以我们先来听一下今天的对话。

「对话文本」

Salesperson: Hello there, welcome to Wine World. Let me know if I can help you out at all.
你好,欢迎来到酒的世界。有什么可以帮助的吗?

Customer: Um, yes, please, I could really use some help. I'm going over to my boss's house for dinner tonight and I don't know what kind of wine I should bring.
嗯,是的,确实需要你的帮助。今晚我要去老板家里做客,但是不知道带什么酒比较合适。

Salesperson: OK, do you know what kind of food will be served?
好的,你知道你的老板会招待你们喝什么吗?

Customer: Well, his wife is Japanese. He said she makes really good sushi.
嗯,他的妻子是日本人。他说她做的寿司很好吃。

Salesperson: Hmm, that's a bit of a challenge. Sushi is notoriously difficult to pair with wine. Well, let's see. It’ll have to be a white wine, of course.
嗯,那会有点挑战。众所周知寿司很难和酒搭配。嗯,让我想想,当然必定是白葡萄酒。

Customer: Why? Wouldn't a red wine go well with sushi?
为什么?没有红酒可以和寿司搭配的吗?

Salesperson: No, I don't think so. Sushi is a very delicately flavored food, and red wine would be a jarring contrast. You need a white wine, which has more subtle flavors, to complement the fish.
不,我不认为。寿司是调味精致的食物,红酒会和它构成强烈的对比。你需要一点白酒,有更多清淡的味道,和鱼搭配起来味道会很好。

Customer: I see. So should I get a bottle of Chardonnay? That's a white wine, right?
我知道了。我应该买一瓶霞多丽,那是白葡萄酒,对吗?

Salesperson: Yes, Chardonnay is a white wine, but I'm not sure it'd be your best bet. Chardonnay is one of the more full-bodied whites, and tends to be a bit okay. I'd suggest that you go for something brighter, like this Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.
是的,是一种白葡萄酒,但我不确定它是你的最佳选择。是一种浓烈的酒,还行吧。我建议你买一些淡一些,比如来自新西兰的长相思。

Customer: The Sauvignon Blanc? What's that?
长相思,那是什么?

Salesperson : That's another varietal, or type of grape, just like Chardonnay.
那是用一种葡萄酿制的葡萄酒,葡萄酒的一种,就像

Customer: Let's see. The label says it's got "attractive citrus and grassy aromas that give way to crisp, mineral flavors and a bone dry finish. Serve chilled." Oh, no, how long will it take to chill the wine? I'm on my way to the dinner now.
让我看看,标签上写着有具有魔力柑橘和甘草香气,非常松脆的,有矿物的味道,并且是全干的,适宜冰镇后食用。噢,那要花多久冰镇呢,我现在要去赴宴的路上了。

Salesperson: It's OK, don't worry, we'll just choose a wine from the cooler. We don't have quite as extensive selection over here, but...this Rhone Valley white would be lovely.
好的,不用担心,我们只是从冰箱里面选择一瓶酒。我们没有很多的选择,但是……罗纳河白葡萄酒很不错。

Customer: All right. What varietal is that?
好吧,是用什么酿成的?

Salesperson: Well, this is a French wine, so they don't always specify the varietal on the label. The French believe that the soil a grape is grown in is one of the most important factors in the final flavor of the wine. This wine is probably a blend of a few different types of grapes, mostly Viognier, I'd guess.
嗯,这是法国酒,因此他们不明确地标注是由什么酒酿造的。法国人认为葡萄生长的土地是酒最终味道的最重要因素之一。这种酒是不同葡萄在一起酿成的,我觉得最多的是维欧尼。

Customer: And you think this is a good wine?
你觉得这是好酒吗?

Salesperson: Yes, this is one of our best-sellers. It's not quite as dry as the Sauvignon Blanc we were looking at earlier, which means it's more approachable. It's light and crisp, with a bit of a vanilla aroma.
是的,这是最畅销的就。它不像我们之前看到的长相思葡萄那样那么干,它更加容易入口。它又轻又脆,带有一点香草的香气。

Customer: Perfect! I'll take it!
太好了!我就买这个了!

「重要发音技巧」

Alright, we’re back. Let’s look at some useful tips that help you improve your English pronunciation.

好的,我们回来看一些能帮助你提升英语发音的技巧。

1. 连读:need a  失爆:white wine

对话中:

You need a white wine.

You need a white wine.

2. 连读:one of

对话中:

Chardonnay is one of the more full-bodied whites.

辅元连读:

两个单词相邻,“辅音+元音=辅元连读”。

连读分析:

one /wʌn/ 和of /əv/ (/n/是辅音,/ə/是元音),可以连读为/wʌnəv/

复述:

Chardonnay is one of the more full-bodied whites.

「核心单词掌握」

We heard a lot of vocabulary related to wine in this dialogue and right now we’re gonna explain them.

我们在这段对话中听到了很多有关葡萄酒相关的词汇,现在来一起看一下。

The first one is jarring.

第一个单词是 “jarring”。

1. jarring /ˈdʒɑːrɪŋ/ adj. (使)感到不快的,不合适的

Jarring means producing an unpleasant effect on something or someone.

Jarring是指对某物或者某人产生不愉快的影响。

Salesperson mentioned “And a red wine would be a jarring contrast.”, which means Sushi and red wine, they are just too different, and they wouldn’t go well together.

店员提到“红酒会和它构成强烈的对比”,表示寿司和红酒,它们是不同的,它们的搭配是不好的。

如果想要表达这种反差的对比,可以用这个表达-a jarring contrast

And the second word we have is “subtle”.

第二个单词是“subtle”

2. subtle /ˈsʌtl/ adj. 不易察觉的,不明显的

We heard “subtle flavors” in our dialogue. It means the flavor is very light.

我们听到对话里说到 “subtle flavors”, 这里就是形容味道很淡。

subtle表示不明显的, 所以这里在形容口味的的时候,不是很浓郁那种,淡淡的味道。

所以如果我们想要表达酒的清淡的味道,或者其他食物的清淡的味道,也可以这样来用(subtle flavors)。

We talked about “subtle flavors”. Now let’s look at the word “flavor”.

我们刚谈论了淡淡的味道。现在我们来看一下 “flavor”这个单词。

3. flavor /ˈfleɪvər/ n. 味道(表示某种味道时,是可数名词)

We saw “mineral flavors” in our dialogue, which is saying the taste of the wine.

我们在对话中看到矿物质的味道,是在说那一款酒的味道。

那除了我们前面提到的 “subtle flavors”-淡淡的味道, 刚说到的“mineral flavors”-矿物质的味道, 再来补充一个常见的形容酒的味道,fruity flavors-水果的味道。

Okay. Let’s move to our third word “full-bodied”.

好的,我们来看第三个单词“full-bodied”。

4. full-bodied /ˌfʊl ˈbɑːdid/ adj. (味道)浓郁的,浓烈的

So we usually say “a full-bodied wine”, which means it has a rich flavor.

我们经常会说浓郁的红酒,就是表示它的味道很浓厚。

在我们的对话中,我们看到的是 “full-bodied whites”, 这里的whites就是指白葡萄酒,浓郁的白葡萄酒。

Alright,our last word for today-varietal.

好的,我们最后一个单词是varietal”。

5. varietal /vəˈraɪətəl/ adj.& n. (单一特定品种酿造的)品种葡萄酒

Varietal, it is a specific wine word that we use to describe the kind of grape they go into wine.

varietal是一个专门用来描述酿酒葡萄种类的单词。

所以varietal就是指葡萄的品种,像我们听到对话中顾客问到的 “What varietal is that?” (是用什么酿成的?)就是在问这种葡萄酒的品种。

Wine is made with grapes, but not typical table grapes you’ll find at the grocery.

葡萄酒是由葡萄制作而成的,但不是我们在超市会找到的那种葡萄。

There are many different types of white wines.

有很多不同种类的白葡萄酒。

Here are two common types of white wines that are mentioned in our dialogue, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

对话里提到的两种常见的白葡萄酒品种:霞多丽和长相思。

「实用口语表达」

Okay, so, we looked at some vocabulary related to wine and now we can look at some useful phrases.

好的,刚才学了一些跟葡萄酒相关的词汇,现在来学习一些实用的短语。

Today we have three phrases.

今天我们会学习3个短语。

The first phrase is “pair with”.

第一个短语是“pair with”。

1. pair with 配对,和…相配

When you talk about wine, you talk about pairing it with food.

For example, if you have chicken, or pork, you try to pair it with a wine, basically the flavor goes well together.

当你谈论葡萄酒的时候,会说到和它相配的食物。

比如,如果你有鸡肉或者猪肉,你会试着去配酒,基本上,这个味道会搭配起来更好。

We commonly say “Red wines pair well with the red meat. White wines pair well with fish.’’

我们经常说红酒和红色肉类搭配很好,白酒和鱼很搭。

And our next phrase is “your best bet”

我们下一个短语是“your best bet”。

2. your best bet 最好的办法

So it means the action that is most likely to be successful.

所以它是指你最有可能成功的行动。

For example,

Your best bet is to leave the car here and take a cab into town.

最好的办法就是你把车留在这儿,然后乘出租车去城里。

Alright, our last phrase- I’ll take it.

好的,最后一个短语I’ll take it

3. I’ll take it. 我就买它了。

It is the common phrase that people use when they decide to buy something.

这是人们经常在决定买东西的时候会用到的短语。

You say this to the salesperson after youve considered or discussed the item for a while. You usually use this phrase when shopping.

当你在考虑和讨论这个东西之后,最后你会对店员说出这个表达。去购物的时候经常就会用到这个短语。

Now, its time for us to review what we've learned today.

现在我们来回顾一下今天所学习的内容,一起思考起来。
