What you need to know about land preparation

Land preparation or soil tillage is an expensive and critical management operation, central for the success of the cropping season. The following training module is structured in five different lessons, explaining the essential elements of good land preparation. The lessons address the following topics:

1. why is land preparation or land tillage important?

2. what are the different types of tillage, which purpose do they serve, and what tools are used?

3. what are the usual plowing patterns?

4. why is land leveling so important in rice and how can it be done?

5. what are the main types of farm power and their advantages and disadvantages?

After any study of land preparation you should understand the different tillage systems, tillage patterns, and equipment used for land preparation, and be able to select the most appropriate management practice for your situation.
