Not Afraid of Dogs

The Boy Who Dared
A Novel Based onthe True Story of a Hitler Youth

Summary:
In the new Third Reich, all youth are required to join the Hitler Youth.Helmuth is impressed at first, but his religious faith helps him realize howwrong it is. He risks his life to start an underground newsletter telling whatis really happening, (using news from BBC radio) and is eventually caught. Thisis one of our favorite books about courage, probably because it is based on areal person (and includes photos!)

Before We Were Free
by Julia Alvarez
