Spatial data types are implemented using the CLR functionality in SQL Server. This approach hides the complexity of the spatial calculations by providing a couple of types on which there are methods that perform the calculations. This hands-on Lab shows how to use SQL Server Spatial types from managed code. More precisely, how to convert shapes drawn in a WPF Ink Pad to a SQLGeometry object and how to establish relations between these shapes by using spatial types methods such as STIntersect, STWithin, and more.
