人們逃避家庭、城市、社會及自己的問題而至深山中去尋覓心內的平靜。既然是要尋覓“心內”的平靜，又怎麼可能在“心外”尋得呢？快樂只可以在心內尋得，並不在於你身處之地方。有人花費半生積蓄往外國的海灘度假，結果卻敗興而返；有些人卻可以在水災災區中划艇作樂，玩個不亦樂乎。有人遠走他方以尋覓內心的平和。但如果你心中沒有平和，縱管跑到天涯海角也不會尋得到它；假如你心中一早有了平和，你也就沒什麼地方是一定要去的了。
如果心中沒有快樂，即使走遍天涯海角，也永遠不會找到樂土；心中若然滿足快樂，哪怕身在牢獄茅廁，一樣可以悠然自在。當你的心充滿祥和，去到哪裡都一樣歡喜自在；當你的心充滿智慧，一花一草都令你見到真理。
我們見到的世界只是自己內心的反映；在心情開朗時，見到的人都友善親切；在心情煩躁時，碰上的人彷彿都面目可憎。我們的心影響著我們所見到的世界。擁有一顆快樂的心的人，見到的是一個值得歡欣的世界；內心充滿仇恨的人，見到的是一個令人憤怒的世界；心中滿是憂傷的人，見到的是一個充滿悲哀的世界。

自知為愚者的愚者並不愚蠢；自以為聰明的愚者卻是愚者中之愚者。與他人相處時，是謙虛學習的好機會；在個人獨處時，是反思自省的好機會。在你的心開始懂得以智慧去觀察時，生命的真諦便會在每一刻、每一地方、每一事物中向你展現。只要你仔細去看，即使一個醉漢或一個瘋子，都有一兩件東西值得你學習。
