The opening ceremony of the seventh National Peasants’Games, held on Sunday in Nanyang, Henan province. The equadrennial gathering of Chinese farmers has welcomed 4,689 athletes, team leaders, coaches and referees. Participants in the games compete in 15 sports and more than 198 events.(China Daily/Xiang Mingchao)
The opening ceremony of the 7th National Farmers’ Sports Meet took place inNanyang, Henan province, Sunday afternoon.
The showcase is held every four years. Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu attended theopening ceremony. With typical local features including Tai Chi and Kongfu beingpresented, more than 6,000 people participated in the 75-minute opening ceremony.During the 7-day event, more than 46-hundred farmer athletes, including those fromChinese Taipei will compete in 15 sports.
They will be competing in 198 events. Some of those include traditional events likeathletics, basketball, table tennis, and swimming. But there are also less familiaractivities like lion and dragon dance. Different from the National Games andUniversiade, the farmers’ sports meet is meant to showcase farmers’ specialcharacteristics, focusing more on their life style and work.
