大学英语六级核心词汇A开头（二）

背单词的正确方法是：有规律的单词按规律来记忆，这样的记忆才长久；没有规律的单词，找出属于自己的规律；不过英语中每个单词的构词法基本上都有规律，所以一定要先掌握规律，而且最好是属于自己的记忆规律，当然可以借鉴一些高效的记忆方法。

1. activate 

词性：vt.

释义：使活动起来，使起作用，激活，使运作

例句：

The burglar alarm is activated by movement.

这防盗警报器一动就会响。

We must activate the youth to study. 

我们要激励青年去学习。

推荐记忆方法：可以结合名词 activity （活动）一起记忆。

2. acute 

词性：adj.

释义：严重的，激烈的；敏锐的；（疾病）急性的；尖锐的

例句：

There is an acute shortage of water.

水严重短缺。

Her judgement is acute.

她的判断敏锐。

推荐的记忆方法：把第一个 a 当前缀，前缀 a- 有“没有，不”的意思，cute 是可爱的意思，那么“不可爱”就“严重”了。

3. adhere 

词性：vi.

释义：粘附，附着；支持，拥护；遵守，遵循

搭配：adhere to (sth/doing sth)

例句：

Small particles adhere to the seed.

小颗粒牢牢附着在种子上。

We must adhere to the principle of voluntary participation. 

我们必须坚持自愿参加的原则。

She adheres to teaching methods she learned over 30 years ago.

她依循她30多年前所学的教学法教学。

推荐的记忆方法：前缀 ad- 有“靠近，朝向”的意思，所以 adhere 就是“一直往这里靠近”，那就是“附着，支持”等。

4. adjacent 

词性：adj.

释义：邻近的，毗连的（地区、建筑、房间等）

搭配：adjacent to

例句 ：

The planes landed on adjacent runways.

这些飞机在毗连的跑道上降落。

Our farm land was adjacent to the river.

我们的农田在河边。

5. adjoin 

词性：vt.

释义：紧挨，邻接，毗连

例句：

A barn adjoins the farmhouse.

一座谷仓紧靠着农舍。

推荐的记忆方法：前缀 ad- 有”靠近“的意思，那么 adjoin 是”越加越近“，就是紧挨了。

6. administer 

词性：vt.

释义：管理（公司、组织、机构等），治理（国家）；实行，执行；给与，提供；施用（药物等）

搭配：administer sth (to sb)

例句：

The pension funds are administered by commercial banks. 

养老基金由商业银行经管。

The teacher has the authority to administer punishment.

老师有权处罚。

Police believe his wife could not have administered the poison. 

警方认为他的妻子是不可能下毒的。

推荐的记忆方法：结合 admin 一起记忆，admin 是 administration 的缩写，译为”管理员“，经常用于默认的账号。

7. adolescent 

词性：n. / adj.

释义：青少年；青春期的，青少年的

例句：

Parents worry about the effect of music on their adolescent's behavior. 

父母担心音乐对青春期孩子的行为所产生的影响。

Most adolescent problems are temporary. 

多数青少年问题是暂时性的。

8. advent 

词性：n.

释义：（重要事件、人物、发明等的）出现，到来；将临节，基督降临节（圣诞节前的四个星期）

搭配：the advent of (sb/sth)

例句：

The advent of war led to a greater austerity. 

战争的到来使形势更为严峻。

Swallows come by group at the advent of spring. 

春天来临时燕子成群飞来。

推荐的记忆方法：ad- 有”靠近“的意思，vent 有“出口”的意思，那么 advent 就是“靠近出口”，就是到来。

9. adverse 

词性：adj.

释义：不利的，有害的，反面的

例句：

This drug is known to have adverse side effects. 

众所周知，这种药具有不良副作用。

They have attracted strong adverse criticism. 

他们已招致强烈非难。

推荐的记忆方法：可以结合易混词 averse（不喜欢，不想做） 一起记忆。

10. advertise 

词性：v.

释义：为…做广告，登广告；公布，征聘；展现，宣传

搭配：advertise sth (as sth)，advertise (for sb/sth)

例句：

If you want to attract more customers, try advertising in the local paper.

如果你要吸引更多顾客，就试试在当地报纸登广告。

We advertised the concert quite widely.

我们为这次音乐会做了相当广泛的宣传。

I wouldn't advertise the fact that you don't have a work permit.

我不会向外声张你没有工作许可证这件事。

推荐的记忆方法：advert 广告 → ise 使…化

11. advocate 

词性：vt. / n.

释义：拥护，支持，提倡；拥护者，支持者

例句：

The group does not advocate the use of violence.

该团体不支持使用暴力。

He was a strong advocate of free market policies and a multi-party system.

他是自由市场政策和多党派制度的坚决拥护者。

推荐的记忆方法：前缀 ad- 译为“靠近”→加强→voc (voice)→加强声音→提倡

12. aerial 

词性：adj. / n.

释义：从飞机上的；空中的，地表上的；天线

例句：

Aerial photography has revolutionized the study of archaeology. 

航空摄影已经给考古学研究带来了一场革命。

The aerial doesn't look very secure to me. 

我看这天线不太牢固。
