Today, we're talking about critical soft skills for project managers.

今天,我们要讨论的是项目经理的重要软性技能。

Well, in some of our previous whiteboard sessions, we've talked about the technical skills for project managers. We've also talked about behaviors or other qualities of project managers.

在之前的一些白板会议中,我们讨论了项目经理的技术能力。我们还讨论了项目经理的行为或者其他的品质。

But in today's whiteboard session, I want to focus on the soft skills. Well, sometimes we say “the soft skills are the hard skills”.

在今天的白板会议环节,我想把重点放在软性技能上。没错!有时候,我们会这么说“软性技能,就是硬性技能”。

Why is that?

为什么这么讲呢?

Because when we talk about soft skills, we're typically talking about human, the human interaction. We have to consider things, like different thinking styles, different perspectives, and trying to get people on a team to think commonly and drive results.

因为,在谈论软性技能时,我们通常谈论的是人与人之间的互动。我们得考虑一些事情,比如,不同的思维方式、不同的观点,并努力让团队成员共同思考,并推动结果。

So why is this so important?

为什么这一点很重要呢?

We’ve seen the soft skills are where a project can ultimately fail or succeed. So let's talk about some of the soft skills.

我们已经看到软性技能是项目最终可能失败或成功之处。好,我们来谈谈软性技能。

Well, as a project manager, it's very important to be able to cast a vision for the team. Let them know where are we going, why are we even going, and ultimately how are we going to get there, what's our blueprint. And through that, the project manager needs to be able to lead the team. They need to be able to inspire them. Sometimes, during some difficultcircumstances, they also need to be able to make complex things simple, whether its topics or plans or maybe even some negotiating between different groups.

作为项目经理,能够为团队树立愿景,这一点是很重要的。让团队成员知道我们要去哪里,为什么要去,最终如何到达,蓝图又是什么。通过这一点,项目经理需要能够领导团队。他们要能够激励团队。有时,在一些困难的情况下,他们还需要能够让复杂的事情变得简单,无论是主题或者计划,甚至是不同群体之间的磋商。

So, through that, they may be able to teach, educate, or deliver different types of information. They also need to be able to get buy-in, sometimes, from stakeholders, the executive teams, other team members, and, even sometimes, vendor, and partners. And because of that, they need to be able to influence others. They need to be able to collaborate effectively, and they also need to be able to negotiate. They also need to be able to coach and mentor different members of the team.

因此,通过该方式,他们可能能够教授、教育或者传递不同类型的信息。他们还需要能够从干系人、执行团队、其他的团队成员,有时,甚至从供应商和合作伙伴处获得认同。因此,项目经理需要能影响他人。他们需要能够有效地协作,而且他们还要能够磋商。他们还需要能够辅导和指导团队的不同成员。

And say that, they need to be able to impact them and encourage them, sometimes, in getting through some fear or maybe some things they've never done before. So the common threat  between all of these is communication. So being able to communicate is a very critical soft skill. Being able to speak clearly and listen intently. So when we speak clearly is being able to deliver a clear and concise message for the team. Being able to do that for people with different thinking styles, people with different perspectives, also, being able to listen intently, and being able to ask some of the right questions and listen to what the person is saying.

他们需要能够影响和鼓励团队成员,有时,是在经历一些恐惧或者以前从未做过的事情之前。其中,常见的威胁是沟通问题。所以,能够沟通是一项非常关键的软性技能。能清晰地说出,并专心地听。当我们把话说清楚时,就能够为团队传递一个简明扼要的信息。能够为具有不同思维方式、不同观点的人,做到这一点。也能够专心倾听,能够提出一些正确的问题,并倾听人员所说的话。

And more importantly, sometimes, is listening for what they're not saying. So it's a project manager through all of these skills is being able to create solutions, being able to execute a plan to get results, build a team, and sometimes manage a crisis.

更为重要的是,有时,也要倾听对方所没说的话。因此,通过所有这些技能,项目经理能够创建解决方案,能够执行计划去获得结果,构建团队,有时,还要能管理危机。
