【闲话习语】
该英语习语最早出现在苏格兰哲学家Thomad Carlyle的作品“The French Revolution”(1837)里:"Arrestment, sudden really as a bolt out of the Blue, has hit strange victims." 但是,这个习语的来源其实可以追溯到罗马时代,比如在Horace的作品Ode 34中,就有这么一句从拉丁文英译过来的诗句:By whose fierce bolts the clouds are riven, To-day through an unclouded sky。这句话中的unclouded sky就相当于blue sky,所以这句诗所表达的含义正是a bolt from the blue,我们也可以用thunderbolt out of a clear sky来表达,或者直接用a thunderbolt来表达。
