ITLTS Writing task 2

1. What is the difference between the dressing style of young people and that of old people?

In my opinion, the younger generation is mostly influenced by the latest fashion, whereas old age people are not the slave of fashion. Usually, youth prefer to follow the modern fashion trends, and their inclination is more towards western outfits, such as skirts, jeans, T-shirts. Whereas, older adults wear Chinese traditional clothes as they feel more comfortable in them.

2. What kinds of clothes do people wear after work?

Well, most people prefer to wear comfortable and casual clothes after spending a long tiresome day at work. Typically at work, people have to wear uniforms or formal dress, so when they are back home, they like to relax and want to be more comfortable.

3. What kind of clothes should people wear at work?

people should wear formal clothes at work, and many companies have their dress code policy, which employees are expected to adhere to. In some workplaces, uniforms are needed, which gives them an identity and develops a sense of discipline. Thus, people should wear proper and formal clothes in the workplace.

4. Does personality affect how people choose what to wear?

The clothes we choose to wear can be an expression of who we are and our values. People often use their clothing to indicate their style, interests, and attitude, and it can be an important part of how they present themselves to the world. Clothing choices can also be an indication of how someone wants to be perceived by others, and can be used to express personality and self-expression.

Yes, personality does have an effect on what people choose to wear/ Our clothes are an extension of our personality / dressing reveals our personality to some extent. For example, someone who is confident/outgoing  may choose to wear bright colors and patterns, while someone who is more introverted/reserved may prefer to stick to darker colors and more modest/traditional styles. Someone who is creative may choose to mix and match different pieces to create a unique look, while someone who is more traditional/conservative may prefer clean lines and classic pieces. Additionally, people with a more active lifestyle may choose to wear comfortable and functional clothing/items, while someone who is more fashion-forward may opt for more stylish and fashionable items. Ultimately, how someone chooses to dress is a reflection of their personality and identity.

5. Are clothes important to you?

On a basic level, yes, of course clothes are important. I need practical clothes, for example, if I am going out walking and it’s raining, I need to wear the appropriate kind of clothes. Maybe a rain coat, taking an umbrella, something that will protect me from the rain. So, from a practical point of view, I think clothes are really important. From a fashion point of view, I don’t think they are that important. I know some people say that clothes represent your identity and its a way of expressing your personality, but to be honest, for me, I take a much more pragmatic (=realistic) approach. I think clothes are just a way to cover ourselves and keep ourselves warm or keep ourselves cool. I don’t really see them as fashion accessories or a way of expressing who I am, but that’s just my personal take (=personal opinion) on clothes.

It is true that the behaviour of school pupils[ˈpjuːplz] in some parts of the world has been getting worse in recent years. There are a variety of possible reasons for this, but steps can definitely be taken to tackle the problem.

In my opinion, three main factors are to blame for the way young people behave at school nowadays. Firstly, modern parents tend to be too permissive 放任的[pəˈmɪsɪv]. Many children become accustomed to getting whatever they want, and they find it difficult to accept the demands of teachers or the limits imposed on them by school rules. Secondly, if teachers cannot control their students, there must be an issue with the quality of classroom management training or support within schools. Finally, children are influenced by the behaviour of celebrities, many of whom set the example that success can be achieved without finishing school.

Student behaviour can certainly be improved. I believe that the change must start with parents, who need to be persuaded that it is important to set firm rules for their children. When children misbehave or break the rules parents should use reasonable punishments to demonstrate that actions have consequences. Also, schools could play an important role in training both teachers and parents to use effective disciplinary techniques, and in improving the communication between both groups. At the same time, famous people, such as musicians and football players, need to understand the responsibility that they have to act as role models to children.

In conclusion[kənˈkluːʒn], schools will continue to face discipline problems unless parents, teachers and public figures set clear rules and demonstrate the right behaviour themselves.

Poor student behaviour seems to be an increasingly side spread problem and I think that modern lifestyles are probably responsible for this.

In many countries, the birth rate is decreasing so that families are smaller with fewer children. These children are often spoilt, not in terms of love and attention because working parents do not have the time for this, but in more material ways. They are allowed to have whatever they want, regardless of price, and to behave as they please. This means that the children grow up without consideration for others and without any understanding of where their standard of living comes from.

When they got to school age they have not learnt any self control or discipline. They have less respect for their teachers and refuse to obey school rules in the way that their parents did.

Teachers continually complain about this problem and measures should be taken to combat the situation. But I think the solution to the problem lies with the families, who need to be more aware of the future consequences of spoiling their children. If they could raise them to be considerate of others and to be social, responsible individuals, the whole community would benefit.
